Only ones ever that I can think of were Ali and Adam Bacher. None on the international circuit these days.
Julien Weiner from your part of the world the only other test player I know of, although Dale Benkenstein played ODIs.

Personally I think the 'you can use pom but err we won't tell you what you can combine it with, we'll just decide to evict you as we please' fudge a joke. Is every country going to have a specially designated insult you can use against them or is it only countries with a sense of humour? Farce.

It only depends if that word has historical baggage behind it. Pom and Convict have passed into the humor realm, so its ok.

Actually, its a well known fact that only white people have a sense of humor. The rest of the world just like to scowl at them and each other.

Racism is no doubt a problem, but can somebody please explain why all of a sudden we have to ask permission of some pointless commitee to call an englishman a pom?? Ridiculous, the same goes for us Aussies being called convicts. If people cannot take such harmless banter as a joke, then honestly the only thing i can recommend is a life!!

They want to be seen as objectively treating each case on its own merit, I shouldn't wonder.

The ****s.

The rules weren't put into place to stop you from calling the english players 'Poms'. They were put into place to stop your racist spectators from calling the south african players ******s.

Get that through your head. If not, repeat that sentence over and over again.

Had read it, and had it through my head, and appraised that decision.

However my point was in regards to australians having to be "allowed" to call an englishman a pom. Obviously it would HAVE to be taken in a case by case manner, but the fact remains, it has never been a problem before, why is it now?

It isn't. They just wanted to be sure the term wasn't offensive before allowing it.

Fair point, but in this day and age if the term was deemed to be offensive i could almost garuntee that we would've heard about it before now?

Can we have some official word on sheep-shagging, bread-stealing convict?
Think thats due to Englishmen and Aussies being able to take a historical joke, after all "Pom" and "Convict/Criminal/Bread Stealer" are very historical terms that would have out dated most of our grandparents, so its hard to get offended by them nowadays.. I've never known an Aussie get properly offended by "Criminal" and I don't know anyone who gets offended by "Pom"

If however a load of Englishmen were to go over and take the **** out of a contemporary tragedy, like the death of Steve Irwin, Bali Bombings etc. or Aussies were to take the rip out of our London Bombings/IRA blighted recent past, that would be deemed offensive because it's something that's happened here and now.. Think its just time making things irrelevant..

This whole farce reminds me of Borat angering people in Kazhakstan.. I guess some places just don't see a funny side to things that have harmless intentions..

What would have happened if the advice to CA, was that it was offensive?

And they had to evict everyone from the ground who used the word 'Pom'

The MCG would look a little empty with only 30,000 poms, er I mean Englishman left

I have known the saying for years now as does everyone I know.
Yes, you only really have to have seen a few hollywood movies - Lethal Weapon 2 comes immediately to mind.

Apparently English people are called Limeys by Americans (Because the old sailors used to suck Limes to prevent scurvy)

I fail to see why this is offensive in the slightest, I expect the American response to scurvy would be to bomb a poor country
