Being a legspinner helps Bishoo, haven't had a promising one for yonks it seems.
In tests over the period considered, this were the winners of Man of the MatchYep. Would be marginally interested to see some stats on awards/Man of the Match given to batsmen and bowlers. I know from during the IPL the Man of the Match award heavily favoured the batsmen.
Agreed.I'd have:
Cook, Watson, Trott, Tendulkar, Kallis, Bell, Prior, Swann, Zaheer, Steyn, Anderson
And they say bowlers win matches. In tests over the period considered, this were the winners of Man of the Match
Amir (3rd Eng vs Pak)
Broad (4th Eng vs Pak [Batting], 2nd vs India [All round] )
Cook (1st Aus vs Eng, 5th Aus vs Eng)
Pietersen (2nd Aus vs Eng, 1st Eng vs India)
Johnson (3rd Aus vs Eng [Bowling] )
Trott (4th Aus vs Eng, 1st Eng vs SL)
Dilshan (2nd Eng vs SL)
Tremlett( 3rd Eng Vs SL)
Kahn (1st India vs Aus)
Tendulkar (2nd India vs Aus)
Harbahajan Singh (1st India vs NZ, [Batting] )
McCullum (2nd India vs NZ)
Dravid (3rd India vs NZ, 1st WI vs India)
Kallis (1st SA vs India, 2nd SA vs India)
Sharma (2nd WI vs India)
Chanderpaul (3rd Wi vs India)
Younis Khan (1st Pak vs SA)
de Villiers (2nd Pak vs SA)
Abdur Rehman (1st NZ vs Pak)
Misbah-ul-Haq (2nd NZ vs Pak)
Sammy (1st WI vs Pak)
Taufeeq (Umar 2nd WI vs Pak)
Gayle (1st SL vs WI)
Sangakkara (2nd SL vs WI)
For the sake of ease, and because it evens the numbers up slightly, I'm going to count Broad's performance in the second test as being both for Batting and for Bowling, because this then cancels out the no award in a rained of SL vs WI test.
So that's 23 awards for Batsmen and 7 for bowlers.
If you take into account most teams have 7 batsman and 4 main bowlers, it makes sense. And they say bowlers win matches.
I think "bowlers" is the key there, specifically when it comes to deciding man of the match awards. In lots of the games, two or three bowlers were picking up three wickets each innings. By contrast there didn't tend to be that many games where two batsmen scored centuries in the same innings. And they say bowlers win matches.
Depends on the bowler or pitch, but in a given match somebody is nearly always going to take in excess of 25% of the wickets available and fairly often there's a 5-fer which represents half the wickets in an innings. It's pretty unusual for a batsman to score the same percentage of runs.I think "bowlers" is the key there, specifically when it comes to deciding man of the match awards. In lots of the games, two or three bowlers were picking up three wickets each innings. By contrast there didn't tend to be that many games where two batsmen scored centuries in the same innings.
What I'm trying to get at, is that perhaps bowling is more of a team game than batting is?

I think part of that's due to the nature of the numbers though. 25% of 100 is a lot more than 25% of 10.Depends on the bowler or pitch, but in a given match somebody is nearly always going to take in excess of 25% of the wickets available and fairly often there's a 5-fer which represents half the wickets in an innings. It's pretty unusual for a batsman to score the same percentage of runs.
Hilarious. Everyone nows that the ICC kiss the BCCI's ass in these awards yet there still complaining. Get a clue dude.If this was for the performance of teams in 2010, then Indian team should have better represented in the awards! They excelled in both forms of cricket and were #1 team until the recent tour of England. If the selection was done prior to this tour, then how come only Dhoni get the spirit award??? This has been fixed, but England enthusiast selection committee! Good that Indian Players boycotted the event, it deserves the treatment. In fact, it should be renamed as English Awards instead of International awards, in the future!!!!!
Most Cricinfo comments are dire. This one was not.No surprise they couldn't make it to the ICC awards - half the team got injured whilst attending the IPL awards, whilst the rest of them simply can't cope with the pace of an award ceremony in England.
I watched the last 10 minutes or so. The Trott bit was funny. Was obviously nervous.
As for Ravi Shastri's presenting! It was more wooden than a wooden doll of Woody from Toy Story! Has this man no personality or charisma?!
