ICC Greatest Test Team

Personally I think Kallis > Sobers, Lara is unarguably the second greatest batsman ever, Allan Donald easily a top 5 paceman, and Lindwall > McGrath and Lillee in any XI on the basis of he could hold a bat to greater effect than those hacks.

Psssh.

Andy Flower is obviously one of the best keeper-batsmen ever-Oh wait, he is.
Malcolm Marshall is arguably the best fast bowler ever - Oh wait, he is
Kapil Dev is surely one of the ATG allrounders - Oh wait, he is

Things get a little tricker now though.

I mean, it's not like Alec Bedser got the greatest batsman the world 6 times in 17 innings...wait a minute...

Or that Ken Barrington has one of the top ten averages of all time or anything. Hold on a moment...

I'll claim that as fairly good going.

I'm pretty happy that 3 out of my first 4 picks make quite a lot of people's ATXIs.

I missed this, but I'll make one with arguably the 3 best all-rounders.

Sutcliffe
Hobbs
Bradman
Richards (Viv)
Miller
Sobers
Gilchrist
Imran
Warne
Lillee

good grief, ikki. your standards are slipping. only 6 australians! when the cricinfo chappies did the same thing a few months ago, u had 7. better buck up, me ol' mucker! otherwise, the next time someone comes up with an exercise of this sort, u might end having a majority of non australians and, god forbid, more than 1 person from the subcontinent in the team!

Great team but would rather have Marshall in place of McGrath.

Yes, in place of McGrath and not Lillee. According to Ian Chappell (and I think it makes sense) "Lillee could do everything that McGrath could do and at higher pace"

According to Ian Chappel Sachin should have retired 4/5 years ago ,and Rohit Sharma and J.P Duminy are the next Tendulkar and Lara:ph34r:

Changes depending on when I'm asked :p Usually half the team is Australian - rightly so IMO.

According to Lillee himself, McGrath is the greatest :p. But I reckon Lillee is the best, myself. If I didn't pick McGrath it'd be between Donald (IMO incredibly underrated) and Marshall.

I pick McGrath because, well, he is as good as anybody and I know how he'd do in tandem with Warne and how both are a more known quantity with Gilchrist. This is also the logic for me picking Sutcliffe and Hobbs instead of possibly Gavaskar or Hutton. They are not only amongst the greatest openers separately but were actually partners.

It doesn't though. You don't get extra points for bowling faster if it doesn't actually result in more effective bowling, and it didn't.
Well, you can't really be sure of the efficacy. What if McGrath did have more pace? It's more a hypothetical - who knows how Lillee would have done in McGrath's time.
