lol u talk about Ramesh having no footwork...Sehwag doesn't have much footwork either.

I didn't know u supported Agarkar. I can't beleive that guy has supporters. He sucks man. I should play in his place.

:D

Arjun, Samant normally bats at no.10 for Mumbai and once in a while even at No.11 . He must be the best ever keeper to make it to the current Indian team under the prevailing criteria for a wk nowadays. Why are you so impressed by him? Is he that good a keeper b'coz he isn't that good a batsman

ive always been a fan of specialist openers particularly in conditions that favour bowlers, i can understand 1 makeshift opener but 2? and need i say it yuvraj isnt cut out to open the batting anyways. he failed miserably in england where there was a bit of movement so i dont see why he should open the batting at all. i think sehwag has got it right when he says that he should bat with a defensive opener because it is the perfect foil for him.
if sourav ganguly were indeed a great captain then he would open the batting himself instead of ruining some of the younger players' careers or perhaps use sachin as an opener although chopra would still be the best option IMO

He would even have me as WK, he just doesn't like PP. So far he has suggested Pankaj Ratra, Vijay Dahiya, Samant, Mongia and Dinesh Karthik for the WK job.

I think Chopra's scoring ability has gone against him but We already have Sachin, Sehwag, Laxman and Ganguly as stroke makers. I dont really understand why we need Yuvraj to open the innings. Chopra has been doing a good job so far and it's just a matter of time before he gets a decent score.

But don't you think Yuvraj should be tried out? If he suceeds can you imagine what a combo we will have? I don't think they will stick with him if he fails, Chopra will get back in.

But Ganguly thinks he's got what it takes, and he thought the same about Sehwag. The decision to get Sehwag to open got similar reactions, but how well it has worked.

Yes, and is not part of the reason because he had a solid defensive foil, rather than another shotmaker?

Only as an Ian Harvey type of bowler, not as a strike bowler. I am not known for supporting Agarkar. My third post on CricketWeb is proof of that. In fact, a lot of my earlier posts are. In fact, I don't even talk of him now. Never accuse me of supporting him. I waged a long battle with the Agarkar mafia (a more aggressive version of AAAS) on SportNetwork ICF (another forum, does anyone post there?). Besides, it's not just Agarkar. I don't support Harvinder Singh (Railways), or Robin Singh Junior, for the same reason. Not enough power.

Are you taller than him? That would be reason enough to play in his place.

At least he does not drop catches and mess up stumpings, like the 'best' Indian wicketkeeper, a.k.a. 'a talented youngster'. Besides, he has not one, not two, but NINE first class 50's. He too has played a very important role in pulling his team out of trouble and getting them to a good score. Besides, he is not Nayan Mongia, so the selectors won't mind picking him.

Do one thing. Form the PPPG (Pro Parthiv Patel Group) if you like him so much. Not that I don't like him, he's just nothing special.

If only that player existed- he would not only be one of the best batsmen in India, but also a very fast wicketkeeper with good reflexes. However, Pankaj Dharmani and Ajay Ratra are totally different players.

Sure, Parthiv Patel had done a decent job, but Dahiya and Ratra were discarded quickly. What have they done wrong? That was the same question that Bishen Singh Bedi asked- the most sensible point (probably the only one) he has ever made. I don't want them automatically in the team, but I just mentioned that they are very similar players, but not given a fair try.

As for Mongia, I see old matches with him in action- the more I see of him, the more I get the idea he's the best keeper by a country mile.

I was one of the first to protest against picking Karthik as WK.

That should clarify some doubts. Anyway, I don't think openers should just blunt the ball and get out. They should score runs. Chopra did that well for Delhi and North.

Bishen Singh Bedi making a sensible point is a classic example of 'Oxymoron'.

Sorry about Pankaj Ratra (had a friend with that name) I meant Ajay Ratra.

There already is one. They hold their mass meetings in the telephone box at the bottom of our street every month whether the man brings his dog or not.

Between Zimbabwe's tour of India and India's tour of WI, there were several comments on the Talking Point forums of CricInfo, saying that Pankaj Dharmani is the best wicketkeeper in India and has a FC average of 53. The man played in the 2002 Challenger Trophy and got some runs. Some, but not too many. They thought that he get an automatic India call-up. At that time, he was 30 years old. He played one match in the Titan Cup in 1996 as a batsman. He travelled to SA with the team, but did not get a match. He has been wicketkeeping for a few years, longer than Dravid. Nothing special, except for that FC average. Very average keeping, too.

Posts that make sense are good for everyone. Rubbish like this is not.

Sorry. I didn't realise that you wanted to maintain your monopoly - I just thought I'd keep you company awhile.

Maybe they want someone to suit the conditions coming up. In Australia they needed someone to blunt the attack and protect the middle order. Chopra's batting was instrumental in India's test match performance with the bat.

If they were really serious they would drop Ganguly as he has always been an average test player. I'm sure that Dravid would be just as good a captain as Ganguly. It will never happen though. They will never drop Ganguly.

Yuvraj is a great prospect and needs to be in there somewhere. It's hard in the middle order when Laxman, Dravid and Tendulkar are already there. Will Ganguly make the sacrifice and open giving his middle order spot to Yuvraj. Is Laxman an option, he has scored runs there before and has a great technique to be an opener.

Sehwag, Laxman, Dravid, Tendulkar, Ganguly, Yuvraj

Doesn't that look to be the best balanced order without Chopra.
