Hanif is probably indeed the most skillful in tier 3, don't really think he's necessarily lesser of a Batsmen than someone like Sehwag either but eh I got Sehwag lower than most.
I would also put Mitchell in that 2nd tier.

Anyway Hanif is definitely comparable to the likes of Taylor, Woodfull, Lawry and Amiss.

No qualms with Bruce being in the 2nd rung, ditto Hanif. Admittedly i don't know as much about South African cricketers as others here. Ditto Hanif.

Afaic openers go like this:

Atg/big 4:

Hutton, Hobbs, Sunil, Herbert

2nd rung:

Greenidge, Hunte, Simpson, Hayden, Taylor, Morris, Woodfull, Lawry, Ponsford, Sehwag, G Smith, Saeed, Boycott, Amiss, Cook

3rd rung:

Haynes, Gayle, Fredricks, Stollmeyer, Slater, Katich, Warner, Kirsten, Gibbs, Kepler, Hanif, Edrich, Trescothick, Vaughan, Turner etc.

And etc at the end of tier 3 are for the likes of: Sidhu, Gambhir, Boon, , Redpath and others. Not that they're in tier 3 or anything but there simply are too many openers for me to rank.
