Tendulkar accused of ambush marketing

PTI | March 17, 2007 | 20:28 IST

Mobile operator Hutch, one of the official sponsors of the ongoing cricket World Cup, complained to the International Cricket Council on Saturday about Sachin Tendulkar endorsing Reliance Communications' telecom products, saying it amounts to ambush marketing.

A Hutch spokesperson said players taking part in the World Cup are not allowed to endorse the competition of sponsors and Hutch is the global sponsor of the mega event.

"The company has taken it up with ICC, saying this is illegal. None of the players who are participating in the World Cup can endorse competition because Hutch is the global sponsor of the ICC World Cup," the spokesperson said.

"This amounts to ambush marketing and despite Hutch writing to ICC over a week back, the world cricket body has so far not taken any action on this front," he added.

Terrible start for India.

Worth noting, I really don't think there's that much in this pitch. The new ball moved around in India's innings, but it was early in the morning, and there's not that much there now. Not much turn, and the pace and bounce are pretty even. This is nowhere near a 200 pitch.

edit: That wicket will help, though. :p

I fear that Bangladesh may get brought down by nerves in this chase, and Indian's tenth wicket partnership may have put the game beyond their reach.

I hope the Bangladeshis can get there though. General perception seemed to be that this was a real danger game for India, and it's turned out that way.

When I saw the headline, "A St Patrick's Day massacre" at cricinfo, I thought poor Ireland must have been on the end of a mauling. Amazing!

Aww, I was gonna use that one. Dammit, I'll just have to try being creative now.

Christ, had no idea about the Young lads at the crease, Tahir and Rahim. at just 17 and 18, they look promising. Bit obvious, but Bangladesh ahve a brilliant youths et up and i thinkw e could see them rising up the ODI, maybe even Test Rankings in the next year.
