Australia will lose big to England and South Africa so might as well Boycott the Afghanistan game.

This is the worst Aussie ODI side ever and have now lost their last 4 ODI's vs Pakistan and Sri Lanka

I think the Fraser-McGurk selection is rubbish as he's picked as a top 3 bat who averages 14.00 in ODI's 😞

However, trying to be positive and grasping at any straw, in his 50 over games not counting ODI's he does have 476 runs @ 31.73 (135.6 SR) with a HS of 125

cricinfo's predicted team is a NSW selectors dream. all-rounders, wicket-keepers, bad batters. it breaks with recent selection by not having smith at 4 and not having maxwell at 7, which are both things that we should absolutely do and probably won't.

i hate shoe horning keepers as openers, but if they want to pick both Carey and Inglis, i feel like one's gotta open. it just feels wrong leaving Marnus out when Short/Inglis/Carey/Hardie are in the top 7.

1. Head
Inglis
Smith
Marnus
Carey
Maxwell
7. Hardie
Sangha/Abbott/Dwarshuis
Ellis
Johnson [i figure he'll be an automatic pick...]
Zampa

that leaves Fraser-McGurk, Short, Dwarshuis and two of Sangha/Abbott/Dwarshuis/Ellis

Smith, Head and Maxi are our 3 best white white ball batsmen

That’s the top 3 but won’t be

Absolutely ridiculous that Maxwell gets wasted at 7 behind some scrubs

This has to be our best top 7 right now

1. Head
2. Labuschagne (or Short/McGurk)
3. Smith
4. Inglis
5. Carey
6. Maxwell
7. Hardie

Coming to the conclusion that SA should comfortably win this group but then it's anyone's guess who joins them in the semis.

Those who think England will beat Aus comfortably can't have been watching them in ODI's over the last 2 years. That World Cup campaign doesn't seem like a blip. The batting has the ability to implode against anyone whilst the bowling seems incapable of taking wickets in the middle overs. The match on Saturday may well decide the runner up spot, but it's hard to rule the Afghans out.

Isn't this the first ODI series that McCullum is in charge? Should mean something more than previous results?

I'd say the 3-0 in India would count as the first. But the same old issues were still apparent and perhaps even worse than before. It could be that India are significantly better than anyone else and we find it easier to bat against less mystery spin, but I'm not very confident about that.

Are there any “mystery” spinners?
