Evidently CA didn't take the last World Cup seriously either.

But seriously how long a career can you build off one innings and perceived utility that isn't evident in the scorebook? At least when they picked him for the 2019 World Cup he'd scored a few fifties in recent history.

Neither him nor Hardie should be there but with Marsh presumably not bowling (and even if he was, not bowling well) we need someone to be fifth bowler and evidently they're banking on pace. I was really hoping we'd gotten rid of him after the World Cup.
He hasn't scored a 50 or taken more than two wickets in an innings since before the 2019 World Cup. It says a lot about how ODI's are viewed here that he's still in the team.

Stoinis has played only 1 ODI since the World Cup. He made 8 off 32 balls. It just looks like they lost faith in McGurk and Connolly as the only other bats tried since WC (with Green injured). ODI's played since WC attached

Edit: just realised Nathan Ellis hasn't played an ODI since before last WC, so a real bolter

How on earth can they have "lost faith" in Connolly when he's played one game batting 8 and never made it to the crease?

If anything it shows how meaningless those series are, players are just thrown in on vibes and nothing should be read into their absence later

EDIT: Oh no my mistake, two games, but only batted once, and made 7*.

I think Connolly went on the tour to maybe play a game or two in the middle order but ended up in that weird role because of bowling injuries and how they cbf flying over other players.

I really did think they were looking at him for Pakistan but it seems like he was around the setup because they were thinking of Sri Lanka. I'd have much preferred the opposite really.

Haha this always felt far more likely though. He just felt so random for that tour and it didn't really make much sense that he would be in the frame for the ODI sides, whereas at least he has a Shield average to fall back on and on paper is the sort of player you want in a touring squad to SL.

Won't happen, but creative protest would be Aus, Eng, SA could all agree to pick a female player in their squads, and select them to play against Afghanistan.
Would Australia loose that much swapping Stoinis for Ashleigh Gardner. I wonder if their is ban on selecting a female player in the squad.

Might be a shortage of changing rooms, although many local clubs are in that situation week in week out.
