I mean we left Conway out for the first match of the tri-series. Seems pretty clear that that's where they'll go again now that Young's scored some runs. And honestly, I don't mind it.

NZ are spoilt for choices right now. Philips-Bracewell-Santner at 6-8 has given them great flexibility in picking their batsmen and pacers.

This comp is brutal, game 5 is Pakistan vs India and if Pakistan lose they are likely out having already lost to NZ (so hosts could be out after only 5 days)

It’s good. Fraud teams like Australia wouldn’t have been saved by a freak innings against Afghanistan if we used this format.

Hoping India loses this badly so the ****s finally get the axe.

Gill as vice captain is a joke!
Jaiswal has to warm the benches again.
Sometimes you just have to miss out, you're unfortunate. It's a part and parcel of the game. No one in the top 4 could be dropped.

And I completely believe that Gill deserves it. He's the best new-gen ODI batter by a mile. The only other guy who could've gotten it is Shreyas Iyer and we realize that the management didn't even want him in the side before the England series.

Gill on his way to becoming the best ODI bat of all time. currently over 62.5 average. Kohlis is 57-58, but Gill has to maintain this over a long career, which is possible given how good he is in ODI. Kohli has played 286 knocks, Gill has 51 knocks so far, so around nearly 20% of the career of Virat so far. He just needs to play 50% of Virats knocks with above 60 average to be considered the best.

He's the best new-gen batter but it's too early to compare him to Kohli.

Bilaterals during Kohli's period were of much greater value than the ones today. Gill has been a prolific run maker so far but he hasn't really proven himself against the best bowlers in the world yet. Not saying he won't but it's too early to comment.

Gill has played 5 ODIs in NZ and struggled, 1 in Australia for a score of 31, and zero in England and South Africa.

Even in 2023, when he had a great year, he did little in the World Cup.

Whatever it takes!!!
Man.. its always funny when the old "ODIs were tougher and meant more in X's days" plays out.

I have now seen Sachin fans make fun of it when the arguments against Viv Richards happened, to them making the same argument when the comparisons with Virat happened, to now seeing the Virat fans use that same argument in comparisons against Gill.

I wish he wasn't sick during the World Cup. He would've had one hell of a tournament.

His first series in New Zealand was when he was 19. And in his second series, he made around 120 runs at an average of 54.

The thing is that Sachin, Viv and Virat were the bests of their eras. If you draft a current ODI XI, I'm pretty sure you would go for Rohit and Travis Head as your openers.

Why not Gill and Head? What is the factor against Gill compared to Rohit in odis?

Rohit is the best ODI batter in this decade.

He has been scoring a truckload of runs at an amazing strike rate while averaging 50+. And he has scored runs against all attacks on tricky conditions as well.

Gill is yet to prove himself against the best bowlers in the world. Most of his runs have come against second string lineups so far.
