the first is irrelevant because it's a different format and the one that is relevant you lost lmao
Yes, India lost the WC final. But if not winning it all, I will rather prefer them get into the final and lose instead of crashing out in the league stages.

That's New Zealand talk aka loser talk. Be confident, YOU WANT TO WIN. If you ain't first, you're last

I understand, and would too. "It is better to have loved and lost than never loved at all etc.".

Even though NZ have made about a million* ODI WC semifinals and never won the actual thing, I'm pleased we at least made semis.

* about a million = 9

Tbf, it would be better for the tournament if India misses the semis though, as Pakistan would host the knockouts.

So this all kicks off in 48 hours with Pak vs NZ. Looking forward to nice short comp with 12 games in 12 days before the Semi's

I echo your sentiment that it is better that India misses out on semis due to this reason. Pakistan is hosting a ICC tournament after quite a long time and it is only fair that they get to host the whole thing.

This is one of the best chances for NZ to win an ICC tournament imo. Good team structure with multiple allrounders, Williamson, Ravindra, Philips etc in good form, high on confidence after the tri-series win which also served as good practice, weaker Australia, ageing India etc. gives NZ a very good chance.

What the heck do NZ do about their top-order now? They can't leave Rachin out surely, but now that Conway and Young have both made big scores, it's impossible not to see someone deserving being left out. Of course the previous reflex response was "drop Latham and give Conway the gloves", but that ain't gonna happen now either.

Huh, why not? I love Rachin, but he's not Bradman so this is simple for me. You can't drop Young after that knock & it's not like Conway is just an ordinary ODI bat, the guy averages 45 so I'm not dropping him either - even if he hasn't been in career best form, the guy is class.

Of course ironically this is the reverse of the selection headache Rachin himself caused the selectors after his hundred as replacement opener in the last WC.

The only change I'm making for the next match is Jamieson in for Smith, unless it's an absolute dustbowl.

Rachin is imo NZ's best batsman in sub-continent conditions, and also brings an aggression and dynamism at the top of the order that Young and Conway can't match. He's an automatic pick if fit for me.
