India ain't going far in the tournament. Freak Kohli innings and dollops of luck helped us win game against Pakistan. But the weaknesses are too many. Fielding is pits. Batting dependent on Kohli and Surya, no one else is firing.
No one else even looking like firing. Having some confidence on Hardik though. But the main issue is the openers.

Whatever it takes!!!
All sides have glaring weaknesses. But it's good to see conditions where old school batsmanship becomes important. I don't think DK is that bad as a specialist #7, esp. if he is the keeper. The issue is we are playing with 5 batsmen, 1 #7, 2 #8s and 3 #11s when it comes to T20 batting.

Lord could have been so useful here I would even bring him in for DK and play him ahead of Bhuvi.

Hardik is not the strongest backfoot player and not very good square of the wicket. The rising short stuff we've seen in this tournament means he's going to struggle imo.

There's really no quick fix here, other than dropping KL/DK for Pant. Our guys just need to git gud.

Shardul goes at over 9s in T20Is. The extra 2-3 runs per innings he might give you with the bat on average (keeping in mind he probably won't even bat at all like 60% of the time) doesn't make up for that sort of leakage from a frontline bowler.

Yeah from what I saw against Pakistan, no one should be bowling too much that's off-pace and in his half against Hardik. He was struggling to lay bat on ball at times, and obviously didn't last long against the bounce last night.

Yes, Pant for KL will improve this team a lot, especially since Pant has done quite well in these conditions before in a tougher format and also has the game to take the attack to the bowlers. Brings in a left hand option too. Have to just play him in the Finn Allen role and ask him to hit out.

pace in the wicket last evening made us look worse than we are

and yet we dragged that game to the last over

we will be fine in the other games if we get rid of rahul from the top and open with pant

Rohit
Pant
Kohli
SKY
Rahul
Hardik
Shardul (for DK if he is injured)/ Axar
Ashwin
Bhuvi
Shami
Arsedeep

Washington Sundar would have been a great option in the squad. Stronger at 7 than Thakur as a bat. ANd his style of bowling with overspin in the Lyon style would have suited aus pitches

Actually he could have replaced Axar on a pitch like Perth. But i do think he is better than Bhuvi as an all game bowler in T20s, right now.
Axar should come in place of Ashwin and play at 8. Bhuvi Shami and Arshdeep all go one place down. DK at 7, Hardik at 6 and with Rohit, Pant, Kohli and SKY as top 4, we just need someone at 5 who can bowl a bit of spin and support Axar. In the current squad, Hooda is the only choice and so, we should go with him.

Won't mind that. Axar V Ash basically seems to depend on matchups and Rohit is big on them anyways. Axar will play against sides which have more right handers.

Hooda currently averages 36 and strikes at 150. Did well in pace bowling conditions in Ireland, though it was only against Ireland. But he is currently the best choice for number 5 since he can support Hardik and chip in with couple of overs.

Agreed. Depending on the match-up, can decide between the two. Axar is the better batsman and fielder though which adds to him a bit.

He couldn't put bat on ball

We have basically picked 4 batsmen (of whom 2 are not firing). None of the others get picked for batting alone: 2 wicket keepers and 3-4 all/no-rounders.
