I do think Tendulkars 98 against Pakistan in 2003 should be up there as his best knock. A lot of pressure in that match. If only Razzaq took that catch!

Michael Bevan against England. Can't remember the context, might have been a world cup? England needed to win to stay in the tournament anyway. Caddick took apart the Aussie top order and left them five or six down for nothing chasing a decent score. Bevan somehow got them home.

Technically, England needed to win or for Pakistan to beat Zimbabwe to stay in, but in the end the PK-Zim match was rained off.
It was Bichel's match rather than Bevan's, though - he took 7-20 and scored 34 off 36.

Had a look in Peter Roebuck's "Great Innings" (from 1990) to see if he'd picked any limited over innings: Clive Lloyd's 102 in the 1975 WC final, and Kapil Dev's 175 v Zimbabwe.

Same 2 guys (Bevan and Bichel) then did the same thing against NZ 2 games later, taking Aus from 7/84 to a defendable total, and they ended up winning by nearly 100 runs

Too many big stakes games here for my taste, even if the rationale for nominating them is totally sound... a low stakes game can be a better innings, even if less important.

High scores in low stakes games:
Watson 185* vs BD. Chasing 230. WTF??? He wasnt competing with Chris Martin to chase down the runs.

Pollock 222* in a 1974 game. Took almost 30 years for this score to be bettered in list A, and remains the only double hundred scored from number 4 to date IIRC. 222 was typically a winning score in those days, often comfortably.

Any innings like 6 off 1 to win the game. Or more off more. See Dre Russ in the IPL a couple of years ago.

Ya, I prefer the WC innings as well. They are more important. But better... probably not

I rate Gilchrist 149 > De Silva 107* > Ponting 140*

Gilchrist scored 149 out of 224 while on the crease against a good attack and nobody came close. Was an unbelievably good knock.

De Silva was a great knock but had a bit more support from the crease and conditions were in his favor. Very close though.

Ponting was fantastic but a pretty average attack.

India's attack was poor on paper but bowled superbly in the 03 WC. They bowled like their 'on paper' selves in the final tho.
