The side he bowled to is one of the ATG batting units, and came from 0-1 behind to win the series. Considering he was a fringe selection, this has to be the best. Closely followed by Imran and Hadlee, because these were done at opposition's home, and against damn strong batting lineups.

Strauss had a great series in SA in 04-05
If you consider Aravinda de Silva as not an ATG, then he went on a spree in Aus and NZ with 167, 75, 72, 5, 7, 267, 1, 6, 96, 123 in 1989-90 period. Didn't win any, but no SL batsman bar Sangakkara has managed to put together such numbers overseas. And unlike Sangakkara, these were total owning of the bowling, with utter disdain.

(If he put his head down and played less arrogantly, he would have added 50 more to each of those scores)
