Didn't the Aussies do an absolute job on the bloke last Summer! They've destroyed some Skippers in their time, but they absolutely took this bloke to the cleaners and back last Summer. Ground him into the footmarks.pasag said:Smith is the only person in cricket I dislike, even more becuase of this whole farce. Pretty happy with his horrible form at the moment. Might shut him up once and for all. Doubt it though.
No it isn't. There is no 'Indian' race. Even in India there are different ethnicities. And from the comments, in regards to language (culture, not physical trait), it is incorrect to term it as 'racism'. It's like saying "you're Aussie, shouldn't you be stealing bread somewhere?".Mr Mxyzptlk said:It is racial because it deals with race. It deals with him being Indian. And stupid, at that.
Ethnicity is made up of both physical and cultural aspects in a person's identity. In the context of the insult, it wasn't racist just because it was an ethnic insult - it was a shot at language and a poor attempt at being racist.Jono said:I was just responding to your statement that Panesar's case brings into question what qualifies as racial abuse and what doesn't. I don't see how it does. The minute you attack someone's ethnicity with derogatory comments, its racial abuse.
LOL, that's a generalisation. There was a man who made a racist remark towards Mutombo recently. Hasn't this happened a few times in the past few years in the NBA?silentstriker said:I don't buy that. That's a defeatist attitude. It simply does not exist in the USA anymore at sporting events, where once it was common. It obviously wasn't impossible here.
And it hasn't been blown out of porportion because small number as they may be, there are obviously enough to cause the Saffies to get pissed.

I dunno really, Smith, Nel and Ntini have copped serious abuse, as has Pat Symcox, Andrew Hudson (from the Aussie players ffs), Gary Kirsten, Phil Tuffnell and probably many more.. Okay Smith was wrong (as usual) and the Aussies have been fairly exemplary in their conduct this Ashes, but it wasn't the most far out prediction anyone has ever made..Matt79 said:Just like to bump this thread and point out what a load of crap Smith was talking. So far, thank god, there's been hardly any crowd misbehavour or abuse that I'm aware of. There's been one stupid comment to Monty and one stupid comment to Saj. From what I've seen so far, everyone here loves Monty - he's a hard guy not to appreciate.
