Grade Cricket Season XII

Back down with a bang after a good performance last time. We need to find some sort of consistency.

Sorry, only players who are actually dropped from their Dev League team currently play grade.
Hmm...Disapointing. :(

I could understand that situation with the old schedule, but with the new one with teams having byes it would be a good way keep players active.

You could add something where, unless a team wants a player rested they should be allowed to play during the bye period.

Round 7 - 2 May

Edfield Seahawks v Campsfield Braves
in CWBCC Stadium

Edfield pros: Rai, Borcich, MJ Smith
Campsfield pros: Blackman, Gooljar, Dunn

Scorecard
Ball By Ball

Nick Borcich was part of a 144-run partnership which turned the game on its head after a good starting spell from Dunn and Gooljar. The Seahawks were 67 for five, yet Borcich's early, unthreatening spell jeapordised the game. Smith broke through the openers first change, while Blackman charged Rai first ball and duly thrashed the ball to Smith at midwicket. A collapse followed despite Gooljar's measured 46 - with the run rate exploding, he inside edged and was last out, but the damage had already been done by Rai, who took five for 32 as the Seahawks drew level with the Braves on the table.

Edfield Seahawks (9pts) beat Campsfield Braves by 42 runs
Man of the Match: D. K. Rai (Edfield Seahawks)

Gofftown Tigers v Fitzworthingham Broncos
in Gofftown Oval

Gofftown pros: Malthus, Thomas
Fitzworthingham pros: Speirs

Scorecard
Ball By Ball

Thomas set back the Broncos with early wickets, ending with four for 34 as they were bowled out for a feeble 177, and though Speirs did his best to right his early dismissal, Thomas got them over the line with a fine unbeaten 25.

Gofftown Tigers (8pts) beat Fitzworthingham Broncos by three wickets
Man of the Match: G. M. Thomas (Gofftown Tigers)

Greater Robbham de Grooters v Davistow Darters
in CW Bar Ground

Greater Robbham pro: Dobson
Davistow pros: Ritchie, Raghav

Scorecard
Ball By Ball

The Darters squandered a good position and meandered to 208 for eight, with Sukhvinder, Buxton and Pardhasaradhi all claiming credits on the bowling side. Ritchie was lbw just before his fifty, and everything fell apart from there. Despite incisive bowling from Raghav, Dobson stood tall with 82 not out, proving hints of what was to come the following day.

Greater Robbham de Grooters (8pts) beat Davistow Darters (0pts) by six wickets
Man of the Match: G. K. K. Dobson (Greater Robbham de Grooters)

Maddington Frenzy v Pickford Panthers
in Bacchanalia Fields

Maddington pros: Corrin, Payne. Youth: Malone jnr.

Scorecard
Ball By Ball

There were disastrous performances on offer from the Frenzy professionals against Pickford veteran McCrystal, who castled Malone and Corrin en route to splendid figures of two for 28 in the Panthers' bowling rout. Wicket-keeper Lawrell barely survived the final overs, as the Frenzy ended on 181 for nine, of which Fielke and the Simpsons contributed 128. The Panthers nearly went better, as Payne struck early to send them into a crisis at nine for three, but the Frenzy couldn't pile on the pressure and Gokarn's unbeaten 84 was by far the best knock on offer.

Pickford Panthers (8pts) beat Maddington Frenzy (0pts) by four wickets
Man of the Match: J. J. McCrystal (Pickford Panthers)

Stedingham Jets v Nixonstown Foxes
in Jets Arena

Stedingham pros: Stedman, Gaukroger
Nixonstown pros: Dravid, Gray, Fox

Scorecard
Ball By Ball

Dravid thumped an unbeaten 132, sharing a partnership of 195 with Jamee Gray, as the Stedingham bowlers got a thorough routing at home. They would nevertheless have fancied their own chances to chase 272 with Stedman in the team; and as Fox failed to get him out in the opening spell, the odds fell on the Jets. However, despite Stedman scoring a massive 161, Gaukroger hogged the strike at the other end, and the massive 246-run partnership fell two runs short of victory.

Nixonstown Foxes (8pts) beat Stedingham Jets (0pts) by one run
Man of the Match: J. E. Stedman (Stedingham Jets)

Twybridge Titans v Garven Island Sharks
in Riverside, Twybridge

Twybridge pros: Weber, Forner

Scorecard
Ball By Ball

Shaukhat Shahzad took four wickets, including the three first in a collapse to 31 for three, but the Titans were let off the hook somewhat and posted 214. Tight and threatening bowling from the Sharks, particularly Forner (with four for 43) ensured victory.

Twybridge Titans (8pts) beat Garven Island Sharks by 19 runs
Man of the Match: J. N. E. Forner (Twybridge Titans)

Round 8 - 3 May

Scorecards from round 7 now work.

Edfield Seahawks v Campsfield Braves
in CWBCC Stadium

Edfield pros: Rai, Borcich
Campsfield pros: Blackman, Collins

Scorecard
Ball By Ball

The Braves had one partnership - it yielded 297 runs, between Das and Jacklin for the eighth wicket. Borcich and Rai suddenly lacked all penetration, as Rai toiled away for 44 overs without reward, and the Braves eventually declared on 402. Collins ran through the lower order, but it wasn't enough to produce a result.

Edfield Seahawks (5pts) drew with Campsfield Braves (7pts)
Man of the Match: P. M. Jacklin (Campsfield Braves)

Gofftown Tigers v Fitzworthingham Broncos
in Gofftown Oval

Gofftown pros: Malthus, Dwyer, Thomas, Demeza
Fitzworthingham pros: Hogarth, Speirs, Williams

Scorecard
Ball By Ball

A swift-scoring and entertaining match, though wickets clattered all around. Gofftown were eventually set 234 to win, but crashed to 37 for four and never recovered.

Fitzworthingham Broncos (15pts) beat Gofftown Tigers (1pt) by 66 runs
Man of the Match: R. Williams (Fitzworthingham Broncos)

Greater Robbham de Grooters v Davistow Darters
in CW Bar Ground

Greater Robbham pros: Mitchell
Davistow pros: Raghav

Scorecard
Ball By Ball

Mat Mitchell took six wickets to set the tone of the game, a low-scoring affair with collapses aplenty. Pradeep's 44 not out became vital for the Darters, who reduced de Grooters to 81 in reply to their 123, before Raghav unleashed himself with seven wickets to secure the win.

Davistow Darters (17pts) beat Greater Robbham de Grooters (5pts) by 81 runs
Man of the Match: S. V. Raghav (Davistow Darters)

Maddington Frenzy v Pickford Panthers
in Bacchanalia Fields

Maddington pros: Syed, Sharma, Payne. Youth: Malone jnr.

Scorecard
Ball By Ball

Pickford were, as expected, routed, with Malone taking six wickets and scoring a century as he continues to tear up this league. Syed, Sharma and Payne were lethal on a wearing wicket.

Maddington Frenzy (20pts) beat Pickford Panthers (0pts) by an innings and 103 runs
Man of the Match: R. Malone jnr.

Stedingham Jets v Nixonstown Foxes
in Jets Arena

Stedingham pros: Gaukroger
Nixonstown pros: Dravid, Gray, Fox

Scorecard
Ball By Ball

Dalton and Fox smashed runs in big stands with Adhikari, as the Foxes posted a respectable 365 in their first innings, but it looked as though their lack of bowlers would come back to haunt them. Not so, as a declaration put the Jets in needing 321 to win in six hours, and Fox incited a thunderous crash. He took seven wickets with 46 deliveries, including Gaukroger for a relatively massive 39 - no other batsmen passed 7.

Nixonstown Foxes (17pts) beat Stedingham Jets (1pt) by 250 runs
Man of the Match: B. B. Fox (Nixonstown Foxes)

Twybridge Titans v Garven Island Sharks
in Riverside, Twybridge

Twybridge pros: Weber, Forner

Scorecard
Ball By Ball

Tarick Weber took eight wickets, but it was the third wicket partnership of 126 between Gunn and Amresh Kumar that put Twybridge into a winning position at Riverside. Weber and Forner exploited the situation, and the Titans took a nine-wicket win to continue their excellent start to the season, though the injury to Forner, who slipped in the field during the second innings, will be a blow.

Twybridge Titans (19pts) beat Garven Island Sharks (0pts) by nine wickets
Man of the Match: H. W. R. Gunn (Twybridge Titans)

Code:
Twybridge 6-1-1 96
Maddington 5-2-1 73
Fitzworthingham 5-3-0 68
Nixonstown 5-2-1 63
Campsfield 3-3-2 60

Hahah, these grade teams really seem to love having invincible tail-end partnerships.

Can't complain too much when they're playing like that, if Borcich is having trouble breaking the partnership then it's not likely the rest of us are going to have much of a chance.

Love the game before, though, stoked to get another 5-fer. Finding some decent form in grade for like...the first time since it started. :D Smith bowled excellently as well, and Borcich carrying on good form with the bat.
