Really? I thought this list overall summarized the general consensus of people outside CW.
Absolutely terrible list, but you get the point.
The Dhoni vote I understand because of his crazy fan following here in India. But didn't know Akhtar and Jayawardene had fans like that to put him over Steyn.
Also Anderson over Murali wow. The bias isn't even consistent

General opinion polling perhaps.

There was the ESPN list where he is 8 and the Wisden list where he is 10. And I have seen many pundits put him in top 5 but mostly top 10.

Mind you, I actually think that's pretty good, it's just a mild underrating.

Whereas Malcom Marshall makes hardly any top 10 list I have seen.

Actually what I think is, they voted for the players that are famous (Jayawardene and Akhtar are enough well-known) and those who were in discussion at that time (re: Cook)

That's actually understandable for general people, but not for actual cricket writers.
This one might be the best example for that. Marshall at 69 (nice).

This guy has Grace over even Bradman.

Isn't this the guy with the Sachin over Bradman quote, "Gentlemen, he (Sachin) is the best batsman I have ever seen in my life, and unlike most of you, I have seen Bradman bat."

Top 4 for me, don't know what his thought was behind putting him above Bradman.

Here's a interesting piece of note that I found regarding Trumper vs Bradman.

"Interestingly, the vast majority of cricketers blessed with the good fortune to watch both considered Trumper the more accomplished. To the best of my knowledge, 18 of Victor’s peers offered a verdict – Monty Noble, Clem Hill, Hanson Carter, Vernon Ransford, Charlie Macartney, James Kelly, Warwick Armstrong, Joe Darling, Hugh Trumble, Jack Ryder, Herbie Collins, Hunter Hendry, Arthur Mailey, Len Braund, Wilfred Rhodes, Francis Jackson, Percy Perrin and Kumar Ranjitsinhji – and of this group only one considered Don Bradman superior (Rhodes)".

He has Shane Warne over Dennis Lillee when Shane Warne was less than 5 years into his career

I wonder how many of these 18 voted bradman at the beginning of his career?

I know some of Don's contemporaries and even juniors maintained Trumper's superiority, mainly Lindsay Hassett comes to mind. And it's funnier because Trumper died before Don was even born and Hassett was significantly younger.......

Malcolm Marshall is the automatic pick as the first choice fast bowler and yet his name barely comes up when the names of greatest cricketers are mentioned

Don Bradman is the greatest cricketer of all time. That is the only thing that is objectively a fact.

Sobers. Kallis. Marshall. Hadlee. Imran. Sachin. Murali. Mcgrath. All of them have a decent argument to be called second greatest cricketer ever.

There may be some names I may have missed because they are less hyped or may have played much in the earlier eras so may have got forgotten
