Football stuff that doesn't deserve its own thread

lets be honest this is a ploy to make only Asia as the eligible continent to bid for 2034 which will be given to Saudi Arabia

nothing to see here
Apparently Oceania can bid too, and it's not exactly often I'd like to see the Aussies win something. But they won't...

Yer crims just need to find a shedload more oil, stone a few women for adultery, execute some gay men and extra judicially kill a few dissidents (teetotallers, people who don't like vegemite and the like), and they'll be a shoo in.

I watched the first two episods of the Beckham documentary on Netflix last night. First observation has to be that I'd forgotten how very, very good he was in the late 1990s. Second observation is I'd forgotten how unpleasant the reaction was to his red card against Argentina. I remembered the loveable ****ney landlord who hung an effigy of Beckham from a makeshipt gibbet outside his pub (and couldn't see the harm in it at all), but I hadn't remembered how long the unpleasantness lasted and how widespread it all was. And Hoddle's decision to throw him under the bus looks absolutely shocking. A third thought is how well Victoria comes across. She tells a good story about being sat in the VIP seats watching a game in the days when crowds used to sing their charming song about where she is prepared to take it (so to speak). The lady sat next to VB didn't know where to look, but eventually turned to her and asked if she fancied a polo. tbh the story probably loses something in being retold here.

I vaguely recall she bonded (or so his anecdote would have it) with Reg Dwight over both of them having had tens of thousands of footy fans regale them with ditties about their putative enthusiasm for a practice beloved of the denizens of Sodom.

I never really had it in for Beckham. I used to love watching him play, the best crosser of a ball I've ever seen. The red card thing was more a **** act by the ref, it was never a red. I think a lot of the hate stuff was as much Man Utd related as anything else, they were winning everything at the time and thus brought on a lot of jealousy. Plus, they seemed to develop a very large following in Surrey!!

Always thought the pair came across better than they really should, like the Ali G interview. But can't say I've any real inclination to watch this.

They've always come across as pretty boring and in the world of hyper-celebrity that's the most complimentary description I could give

Not interest in watching it whatsoever, but I was always a big fan of Beckham the player. Especially for England.

Nah the red was totally fair dos imo, regrettable as it was. People have been shown straight reds for less.

Sort of thread-related:

Received an email from a student earlier, which said "Sorry I couldn't make it to the class today, I injured myself enjoying some sport yesterday evening."

I thought this was an unusual turn of phrase, so I replied by saying "I hope the sport you were enjoying was Arsenal beating Man City."

His response: "From what I remember I fell down the stairs in the pub when celebrating the goal."

lmao
