All clubs have a separate wage budget and running cost budget.

Wage budget is automatically all used for player wages, running costs are split into 3 at the manager’s discretion.

Signing on fees – for every player signed, 10% of his salary is paid as a signing on fee to the player (note that this is only in respect of trading – drafted players will not ask for a signing on fee)
Physio (max $750,000)– the more money you spend on a physio, the less likely you are to see player’s getting injured – as a guide, a manager manager paying $350,000 for a physio will be in the same position as under the present regime.
Youth development (max $750,000)– the more money you spend on youth development, the more likely new rookies you will be offered for selection (and the more you will be able to select) – as a guide, a manager paying $350,000 for youth development will be in the same position as under the present regime.

Please note that for season 7 there will be a minimum spend of $350,000 on youth development owing to events that have already taken place.

For season 7 we have negotiated a grant system from the WCC Board for clubs running costs, but from season 8 onwards, this grant will not be available. It is to be replaced by sponsorship. More details will be available nearer the time, but sponsors will be monitoring the forum and the game, and they will be more likely to offer more money to active managers who project a positive attitude (since they will be represented by this team, so don't wish to see their name associated with problems). This sponsorship will be topped up by prizes for success in the various Tournaments, but any fines issued by the board for non-submission etc. will be taken off this figure.

In extreme circumstances, sponsors may offer additional funds for wages, but that will only be to the most worthy of teams.

Only the FD will have access to every budget information – every other player will only know his own information.

Any trade that would violate either the wage or signing on budget will be refused.

Trades will only be effective when passed by the FD.

As a guide, players will not ask for a full wage until they are established in a form of the game and will ask for less money as they get older.

You will be contacted shortly by the FD with your clubs budgets for wages and running costs, as well as a list of player salaries (which will also be up on the website as well in the near future)

Please direct any questions here, rather than when replying to the individual emails which I will be sending out - because it's likely that the same questions will crop up more than once, so by putting them here, I can answer once for everybody!

Hi Marc - it's very good of you to give up your team and your time in order to do this. I just hope you're not creating a monster! 8-) :D

OK, one question that cropped up just now:

Can you spend money left over on the wage budget on covering running costs such as sign-on fees, or will what's left over on the wage budget simply be transferred to next season's wage budget?

To the first part no, the 2 budgets are completely separate.
To the second part, no also - each season's budget will be calculated from scratch (so any money not spent will disappear)

Blewy and I had a good discussion about it, and knowing him, there's no way he'd have sanctioned it if he didn't think it'd work and be fairly understandable!

Just to clarify...

The wage budget applies to the current squad right? Thus, by the end of the season, the squad must conform to the budget granted? I ask this because, if I were to keep the Auckland squad fairly unchanged, I'd go $210, 000 overbudget.

What happens in the event that a team goes overbudget? What does the FD do to ensure this does not happen?

The team won't be allowed to go over-budget - for a start 6 of those players will be going into the draft, and from then on the manager will know what he's got left to pick up from the draft.

I don't quite understand the question. The figure you've been given is the maximum you can spend on Training, Physio and signing-on fees this season. Does that help?

1. Quick question. When will we get new running costs? Will it be at the end of this season or the start of the next? The reason i ask if because im not sure whether i need to keep some money left over for sign on costs, because if we get a new budget at the end of the season then in theory ill have money to spend in between seasons on signing new players.

2. Another question, which is related to the first, when will the prizemoney be paid out because i could decide to take a risk and rely on that money for signing new players.

3. Ok another question (decided to start numbering this). What will be the cost of a fine for non submission?

4. What would happen in the case where a team spends all their money on physio and youth and has no money left for the fines?

5. I would be right in saying that the money spent on youth this season will affect the youth players we receive during next season seeing as we have received this seasons batch?

It will go towards miscallaenous costs .. eg player and chairman/manager entertainment etc ;) :p..

Im okay with this new change.. took me about 3 reads to understand.. and it sounds good.. i just hope it doesnt get any more complicated.. because keeping it simple keeps the interest going ya know.. But anyway im hoping for the best and i know for the new members this will bring a whole lotta zing.. but for the old members.. well we will always be old and grumbling..

Province may have to adopt a new technique to squad structure with the new system as it appears that all rounders are asking for more than their fair share of the pie. Currently I am one of the only managers with 3-4 all rounders in their 4 day and it is this clever decision that I believe has led to me losing just 2 games over the last 3 seasons. However that's all about to change...

However the decision is final and many of Province's all rounders (due to budget restrictions) may find themselves in the draft next season...

do we have to determine over the next two weeks how much we want to allocate to signing on fee's? It's a bit hard to allocate money at this stage when we don't know how active we're going to be in the trading market.

I know it might sound crazy but do we HAVE to have squads of 16 or can we have other amounts?

Question: Why do we have to give the cost of how much we want to give to our physio and youth development staff? I only ask because if we allocate a certain amount and then find out we need more money to get players we want to trade we won't be able to use it. IMO it would make more sense to allocte your funds after you have traded players.
