Final – India v New Zealand – Sunday, March 9 – Dubai

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
Kuldeep's two wickets were the clinchers for me. That ball first up to Rachin, he couldn't have drawn that up better. And Kane, unfortunately, that was a weak shot that meant Mitchell especially, who couldn't pick Kuldeep, felt he had to go ultra conservative. At 75-1, we could have gone harder.
Oh yep, haha I actually mixed them up. Ravindra's wicket was the most frustrating - he had just had a scare/let off and then gets out straight away. So frustrating. Like, he's been amazing all tournament so it's hard to criticise, but you can't help but imagine what if

Lets face it, India faces so much pressure in these tournament finals. You can literally see it in these players faces. They are more relieved than delighted when they win these trophies. Its an advantage for any team playing us in the KOs, esp. finals.
Probably not the tournament to talk about advantages.

Well, you could well have been 220 all out even today had we held the catches, so if you had gone for that, you may have been 175 all out too. But yeah, those are the risks you sometimes take on the big day.

It's a curse of the Indian cricket team that we will have to live with. Expectations of a billion people. No team has that kinda pressure.

Only way this changes is if India starts winning in other sports which is a distant dream.

I actually just think that was a beast of a ball. Kuldeep bowls that stock delivery away from a LHer, but first ball of a spell he bowls the other one, which pitches off and hits the top of middle and Rachin just doesn't quite see it. It was magnificent bowling. Kuldeep talks about bowling his googly as a wicket taking option, and he went for that first up

Whatever it takes!!!
Excellent win. As I said, we definitely got the advantage of the conditions. But we also lost every toss in conditions where the toss has been crucial and I think it has been excellent leadership from Rohit, very good strategies and tactics from GG and the management, and obviously excellent team-work from the side that has helped us win this trophy. The side really gelled together, and while I still think Rohit really sucks as far as on-field captaincy goes, his style of batting and his leadership have been outstanding. Well deserved win.

Varun, KL, Hardik, Jaddu, Axar, Kuldeep, Shreyas - a lot of maligned and/or unheralded players really put their hands up here and that has made the difference. Losing Bumrah is a blow, as the longer the format the more the difference his genius makes, but the rest of them, esp. the ones I mentioned, really made it up.

Yeah unless we starting doing better in other sports like ENA teams, it is hard to see us winning ICC tournaments consistently.
Except England football team , no other Team faces so much pressure.

Top posting from you in this thread too. You're the real Champion's Trophy. Or something.

Salty. This is good payback for the 2021 wtc final when nz got to play in conditions that suit their players much more and even got a series in England a few weeks before the final that served as ideal preparation.

Only right that the most lucrative cricket nation starts to flex its muscles to get these advantages imo. Long live Jay Shah.

Wonder if the 2023 final would've played out different if we had the two Gujarati's Pandya and Bapu in the final. Probably not but at least game would've been closer.

The semi and final were uncannily similar. India making somewhat heavy weather but winning comfortably in the end. One of their big guns (Kohli and Sharma) sets up the chase. KL Rahul guides the chase till the end and Hardik plays a useful cameo but loses wicket.
After his much-criticized lumbering half-century in the World Cup final, this win is definitely a redemption for Rahul.
