Pickup spins England to Nagpur Triumph
Rookie legspinner takes ten in turnaround

England debutant Neil Pickup, called up to the Test squad following a dramatic outbreak of the H5N1 strain of bird flu that laid the majority of the UK low last Monday, stunned the cricket world by taking all ten Indian wickets to fall as England scripted a dramatic reversal of fortunes in the First Test at Nagpur.

Pickup, a late replacement for Shaun Udal - the offspinner mysteriously wounded by an unknown assailant who screamed "Up the Jags!" as he bludgeoned him on the knee with a hubcap - instantly became a hit with the home crowd for the way that he was stumped off Harbhajan Singh in the morning session, fully eight yards outside of his crease.

England began the final day 87 runs ahead with two wickets in hand, and had extended the lead to 94 by the time Pickup fell - though the spinner was almost reprieved as MS Dhoni was barely able to contain his laughter. However, once Pickup was introduced into the attack with the score at 32-0, the smiles in the Indian dressing room turned to tears. Virender Sehwag was beaten by an inch-perfect googly, before Wasim Jaffer was trapped LBW by a fizzing slider.

Sachin Tendulkar failed to adjust to Pickup's "moon ball", hitting barely 20mph on the speed gun, nicking to Geraint Jones, before VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid fell to unconvicing forward prods, Ian Bell snaffling both men at short leg. Dhoni added two sixes from rank full tosses, but an attempted third went vertically, and Jones once again took the catch.

A huge, fizzing leg break accounted for Irfan Pathan's off stump - after which Pickup produced a baffling message reading "that's for you, Jono" from his trouser pocket. Kumble missed a slider, and Harbhajan fell to an athletic catch from Bell after another forward push. Vikram Singh shouldered arms to a googly, adding a sweet symmetry to the way the 20-year-old from Exeter completed the most astonishing bowling display of all time.

LOL!

To be fair, Pathan falling to the great Pickup is no shame when it comes to his batting ability :p
