English Domestic Season 2025

All the northants bowlers i can remember were exactly that, mallender, griffiths, capel etc with the exception of Sarfraz. Theyd do better signing a proper spinner, they once had bedi and mustaq in the same team along with willey steele and williams, 5 spinners!
Like I say, we have had proper pace bowlers but they break. Olly Stone bowled like the wind for about two games before he was ruled out for a season and a half and then sold to Warks. We signed George Scrimshaw from Derbyshire last year and he lasted about a month before getting crocked. The only one who stayed reasonably fit was Richard Gleeson, who then went to Lancs and got injured there for a change.

Just been looking at the county ins and outs on Cricinfo. Hadn't realised that Notts have let Luke Fletcher go. I'd have thought he would still have plenty to offer if fit. Maybe they are working towards fielding an entire XI containing no players from their own academy.

Also didn't realise Sam Connors has gone to Durham. They've put together quite the squad for this season.

Only three new domestic players draft by the Hundred. McKinney, Moore and Chohan.

The draft is more or less just a swap of experienced players. Of the 27 domestic players draft spots avilable 24 have gone to players who have already been in the competition.

6 of the 10 overseas slots gone to 'new' players although can hardly call Warner new. No Pakistani players picked up as previously suggested might happen.

Yes, further proof that it's just a rubbish tournament. A closed shop of averageness.

IPL has English cricket firmly by the balls.

Hampshire getting rid of Abbas clearly has their racist mitts all over it. Now the Hundred too.

Hope fans vote with their feet but people are stupid sheep.

Some possible surprise omissions who may be appearing in the Metro Bank Cup (unless they pick up a wildcard or injury replacement pick)
Warwickshire: Davies
Somerset: Lammonby
Northants: Bopara
Kent: Bell Drummond
Yorkshire: Lyth
Durham: Parkinson, Robinson
Essex: Critchley, Rossington
Sussex: Robinson
Middlesex: Higgins
Lancashire: Anderson, Stanley

Maybe at this stage that should be expected as 2 wild card selections are still available which will probably account for half of those listed.

Yeah, I saw that mentioned by Pak Passion. I will still go to the Blast, but I'll give the crisp packet tournament a swerve.

A high proportion of people who go to the hundred and blast are casual spectators who do not especially know or care who the individual players are or the background to the tournaments. Music, fireworks and a healthy ration of sixes and they are happy with it as a background to a night out. It is somewhat of a curiosity that domestic cricket is underwritten by this audience. I suppose that horse racing is similar.

But I'm not sure it is underwritten by those that go to the games compared to the TV income and audience figures will count for relatively speaking, a far smaller amount of cash through the turnstiles. The big thing about these tournaments are that they are at a time when there is less Indian domestic/international cricket around and you get many millions of casual Indian TV spectators who are happy for ANY cricket fix. Yeah aware of the general target audience but viewing figures have already dwindled for the competition.

I hope it keeps going that way.

I accept that TV is a bigger revenue driver overall. I was replying more to the ‘vote with their feet’ reference. Spectators through the gate for T20 remain significant though for the smaller counties, hence the blast’s continuance.

I linked to an article at the end of my previous post that pointed out that attendances had gone down at the games. However, as I think we are both agreeing it is overseas/Indian audience that will probably keep it going for the shorter term because of the revenue that this brings in.
