Sorry Rich, but:

Kent 212 a/o
Warwickshire 213-6

Oh well it's a dissapointment but it's not the end of the world... Athough it was nice of you to try and throw the match away when it was a stroll in the park... Don't worry we have a far better home record and will make you pay then!

Anyone watching the U19 ODI between England and South Africa today?

When they went off for bad light, Sky showed some old footage of U19 cricket (1995 I think it was from), England v South Africa.

England won two games by ten wickets, with Marcus Trescothick (captain) and Anthony McGrath putting on two massive opening partnserships of 183 and 200+. The second one beat the English record, held by Trescothick and Michael Vaughan.

Oh, and playing for the South Africans were some familiar names - Neil McKenzie, Makhaya Ntini, Ashwell Prince.....

Waqar is really beginning to hit a run of form, and it's almost certain that the Bears will retain their place in both forms of the game for another season.

Hope he returns, that was one hell of a performance to get Middlesex down from the overnight position. :)

C&G Final - all schoolboys should be presented with a videotape of the game for two reasons :

1. Budding captains should watch Mark Alleyne's masterclass in how to apply pressure.

2. Batsmen should watch the glorious ineptitude of the Worcestershire batting display - an exercise in how to get yourself out without trying (actually, in Ben Smith's case, how to REALLY try to get yourself out after having already been dropped twice) - and make a note not to play that kind of stroke in ANY circumstances.

Not one batsman was undone by a good ball. Even the leg-befores were caused by shuffling across and playing across the line to perfectly straight deliveries.

At 64-0 and with Solanki batting like a dream, the wheels fell off all at once. Senseless run outs, stupid shots and sheer panic made me feel like I was watching Derbyshire.

Its a bit of a long shot, but I reckon Mark Alleyne should have been groomed as a future England one day captain... Every time I see him at Lords, he looks more impressive as a tactician...

Maybe he wouldnt warrent a place in the one day setup, but his captaincy of Gloucestershire makes Vaughan look a bit amateur...

Totally agreed on both counts. The England set-up over the years has been 'pick a captain from within' - it worked with Hussain but there doesn't appear to be another natural captain within their ranks.

I reckon Corky could have been worth a try in the role at some time - but unfortunately he rubbed a few powerful people up the wrong way (especially Atherton).

Ian Trott *runs* through the Kent lower order to take 7 wickets!

What on earth went on there?!

Prior to that he had 4 FC wickets.

4 wickets @ 99.

Er, my faith in CC wickets being any decent indicator of ability is degenerating fast.

So you're ruling out the possibility that he was an uncapped phenom and that on this day he tapped into some cosmic ring of energy and channelled it to produce a series of unplayable deliveries?

My point exactly - especially when you see the Kent score before his spell!

Well, at least Hampshire finished on a high note. James Hamblin and James Tomlinson both grabbes 6 wickets in an innings (needless to say not the same one!), and several batsmen scored runs as we comfortably beat Derbyshire.

Not much of an achievement, but at least we didn't finish bottom!

I think we also recorded our highest score against Derby (580) and recorded our first away win in the championship for two years (oh dear).
