England. Respect.

Let's get real, chaps. If there is an issue about whether England can be regarded as "Undisputed No 1", the answer does not depend on how they do in India. It depends on how they do against South Africa, and how South Africa do against others.

One thing that we have surely learned from this series is that England are a significantly better team than India.

I am trying to work out just how much of a bunsen India would need to prepare for Amit Mishra to be a threat.

If we beat them and the Windies next summer I think it gives us a full sweep of series wins at home against all Test outfits.
If i am not wrong India already have that except South Africa too:p

**** the 2 test series against them instead of 3/4 or 5.

I keep reading, admittedly mostly in comments to articles, that England cannot really be considered number one until they win in India. IIRC, India have never in their Test history won a series in Australia or South Africa so, by that logic, how could they ever have even been number one to demand that they lose it on their own territory?
There's your problem.

It might be a tough pill to swallow for some, but winning in India isn't the magical landmark needed to be completed in order to legitimise a number one position. That battle is now between South Africa and England

Congratulations to all England fans. This is as unaccustomed as the federal government having a less than perfect FICO score, though we must change with the times.

I'll be listening to Alfred (Dvorak, right?) for the next two weeks, non-stop.
