Yeah thats a point, no Adam Holliake.... Dont tell me Rikki Clarke is better than Adam Holioake
I thought that with Nasser out of the ODI scene, he would get some very much deserved playing time. I guess I was sadly mistaken. :(

The one that really suprises me is the exclusion of Ian 'Brickwell' Blackwell.

He's done nothing in worng his short career in ODI's - he hasn't set the world alight by has not made a mistake.

Maybe he's not injured? :D

Hollioake and Blackwell are the 2 most glaring omissions.

England need an all-rounder, ok, so they pick Anthony McGrath and Rikki Clarke both of whome are batsmen who bowl. Hollioke is a very effective OD bowler, and a good batsman, why leave him out? It's baffling.

Blackwell, it was only a few months ago that he was impressing everyone in Australia with his bowling, which beforehand had been thought of as the weak side of his game. He hasn't done anything wrong and he's been dropped. I thought with Rod Marsh on the panel we might actually have had some order brought to selections...but no...they are still as mad as ever. Just as full of bias :( :( :( :(

So Blackwell's bowling impresses the Aussies, and you can use it in an argument for selecting him, yet when I use that argument with regards to Harmison I'm wrong?

McGrath's selection is meritted IMO as a batsman who bowls (a bit like Collingwood, only a better bowler) He's a far better batsman than Hollioake, and also Hollioake doesn't tend to bowl as much as he used to, so in some ways he's also a batsman who bowls rather than a utility player who would be relied on for 10 overs.

The other thing is, Hollioake is very very unlikely to be in the Windies in 2007 (he'd be 35 going on 36 at the time).

I don't think Rik was saying that the Aussies alone were impressed with Blackwell...his name isn't exactly and unknown.

He impressed the Aussies and the Sri Lankans and everyone else because he bowled tight spells. Maybe your forgetting that Harmison got pasted everywhere in Australia in every form of cricket? Blackwell's bowling had obviously improved, Harmison just excited people because he sped off the bat faster and you could never tell where the ball would end up...

I think England selectors did a good job maybe only one mistake that of Blackwell b'coz he deserved his place. I think overall they have done a good job. If Hollioake was selected then the whole thing of youngsters would have gone.If at all an experienced player was required then Thorpe would have been my choice.

Or the fact that Andrew Flintoff, Paul Collingwood and Craig White are the 3 all-rounders that England are likely to play and Hollioake would bring some stability to a young squad. But then of course, if he does well then they would have to pick him again...the story of the England selectors...

Harmison is the biggest joke in the squad, and Solanki hasn't set the world on fire since he was dropped from England's ODI side...

If the England selectors announced that Black was the darkest colour imaginable, Rik would argue with it on some grounds or other.

I think you're very much mistaken here, but if youu wish to believe that then you go ahead.

This is why it is called a disagreement...

Or you would argue that it was white...

I'm sorry but if you think that McGrath is a much better batsman than Hollioake who, if you forget, went ballistic last season and wacked 208 off about 150 balls and several other 100s, then I have no choice but to question your judgement.

Rik, isn't Flintoff already experienced cricketer now. He has been playing International cricket for 3-4 years now. I think that Harmison is the most talented after Anderson. But that's just my opinion:P

I would say he was a better bowler than Harmison or Clarke, maybe Kirtley.......!

I think Holliake is a better batsman than McGrath, but not by as much as Rik is making it out to be.....

What is worrying, is how a group of fans on a forum could probably come together with a better squad than an official country selection panel :(

Well that's life, nobody will ever agree on something the selctors could name any combination of players and someone would have a problem with it.

That's true, if we selected the teams, Ramprakash and Agarkar would be Test captains all now....
