Wow. One that seems both 'I can't believe it was so long ago' and 'that's ancient history' at the same time.

Like Vettori at retirement, seeing the fresh face on debut is unreal. A bowling action that wasn't yet what it grew into. Fleming and Vaughan playing (the latter being Southee's first test wicket and even managed to not act like a pillock). Random Matthew Bell and Jamie How. Jeets, Ryan Sidebottom. Cool that Stuart Broad was one of Southee's first wickets too - careers in parallel.

Even weirder, would be possible to dig up that CW thread and see what everyone thought at the time.

So long ago that Broad would have been a prized wicket!

Also Grant Elliot debuted in the same test as Southee

Here you go mate... Pretty busy damn thread, 302 pages, albeit half of them being Richard's posts.

Used one of Fleming's bats when he got his 77.
He should have kept using it, it's still his best test knock and I doubt he will beat it in this series.

Hopefully he can finish off his test career with a good bowling performance and a test series win.

What happened to Blair Tickener btw?
When he didn't set the world on fire in 22/23 (and tbh no one really expected him to), NZ uncharacteristically decided to roll the dice on youngsters Will O'Rourke and Ben Sears who both made fine starts to their careers. Tickner's actually been doing pretty good work in domestic cricket, so I wouldn't totally rule out the possibility of seeing him again at some point, but he's a fair way down the pecking order now. Besides, the only vacant spot in the attack at the moment is Jamieson's and NZ want someone who can bat a bit to fill his shoes.
