England (and Wales) gloom, doom and recriminations thread

It did attract lots of young people to the games. Unclear what aspect specifically did that.
Cutting 20 balls per innings off a standard T20 and having strict time limits on how long you have to bowl an innings helps bring a game of cricket far more in line with football.

Even 3 hours for a T20 seems too long.

Two things:
- why are supposed non-profits paying bonuses (pretty sure they are like CA)
- why does any one believe the guff about needing this sort of thing to retain 'corporate talent' when corporate governance over the past thirty years has been horrendous and is part of why our economies exist in a zombie state

The counties are struggling and the only thing the ECB did was create a tournament that while brining attention to cricket, in the long run is forecasted to negatively effect the county circuit, and now there exec's get a bonus nearly 50% larger then what most counties get TOTAL.

Not sure why being a non-profit and paying bonuses would be seen as contradictory, per se. In theory a bonus is a performance related incentive and so you earn your bonus by making the organisation more efficient, saving money, etc.

Whether that's what has happened here is a different question ofc

Not for profit means all profits have to go back into the business right? I guess giving staff bonuses could qualify as that

Most non-profit organisations pay top-tier salaries that are ethically indefensible. At least they're not an actual charity hoovering up money from people that earn less than 5% of what their executives do.

Interested to hear more on this. I'd hope it's reversible
There are a couple of things that make me think we would struggle to go back. Firstly, young people don’t really watch terrestrial tv any more. You used to get kids involved because they were bored during the holidays and switched on the tv and the only thing on was cricket. I feel like that has mostly passed.

Secondly, it’s one thing to turn down funding, but it’s another thing to cut it. Investing the Sky money in the game didn’t make up for the massive loss of cultural relevance that came with leaving terrestrial. But actually trying to shut down the resulting clubs and facilities will run into a lot of understandable resistance.

England lost against India because they got carried away by their emotions and started attacking Shami and Bumrah with garbage short balls and expected them to just loft one up in the air. Less than an hour of madness and they lost the game, this is the same team that beat SL in SL and won the first game against India in India convincingly before losing a few games on rank turners.

I see nothing wrong with the English side. They are missing a few key players and doing well without them. Both teams have won a fair amount of sessions in both the games, we are witnessing some quality cricket and I can't wait to watch the next game.

i like how they added 'recriminations' to the title. not just hopelessness and despair, the poms want bloody vengeance on those who failed them.

Can someone tell me what is the Gambhir reference? Like why is it called that?

Also - why has England (and Wales) not been changed to India in the thread title?

Why is it called Gambhiring?
Because its so nauseating, annoying and overstated, it's like Gambhir.
