Would I then need to adjust the runs scored by era? How would I separate the eras? Would I then separate the eras by host country? There are a number of rabbits holes that I could potentially go down but I have learnt that it is often better to keep things as simple as possible for both my own sanity and for the reader's understanding. However, your post about the ratings of 1st innings batting performances being skewed by the poor batting of the opposition chasing did give me the idea of penalizing 1st innings performances according to the margin of victory, so thanks for that!SRs in the same game tends to be skewed by extremely bad or extremely good performances/ The chance of era adjusted stats is skewed far less even by extreme outliers. if outliers affect the baseline then it creates a issue.
