In a test versus the Windies Ponting started on a Windies batsman - a tail ender maybe - shouting and scolding him. I just saw a few moments of it and wasnt watching cricket with full focus. But it was appalling.

And he gets into lengthy arguements with umpires protesting them on field in the process.

I am not a big fan of his captaincy or his behaviour as a captain.

Most people agree on it. Very interesting how some Australians are trying to almost justify such behaviour.

Also, the declaration - why are people not jumping at Ponting now. A lot of people jumped on Lara and came to Ponting's defence when Lara went for 400*. Deja moo hinted on the same earlier too.

I'm not a Ponting poster boy, but until you know what has gone on before that, or what is even being said, judging by what something looks like on TV is a perilous business.

It really is no wonder that Ponting was victim of a nightclub brawl. The difference between Lara and Ponting's declarations was simple. Lara batted until mid Day 3 on a flatter pitch than Perth with a poor bowling attack giving himself two days to bowl a decent batting lineup twice. He could have declared much earlier if he hasn't got the runs "himself".

With Ponting neither side batted 120 overs in the first innings and the pitch wasn't as good for batting as in St Johns. South Africa were still adapting to the conditions and had to face McGrath and Warne who is at his very best. He declared so as to get "someone else" a significant milestone and to make sure they couldn't lose the match which might be a bit defensive but it's not stupid or selfish. The West Indies were never going to lose by the time they had 600 and didn't need to bat on.

Hahaha, I love it how James enters a thread, most likely reads it all, then only tells people off.

Anyway, Ricky Ponting has his faults but overall you have to respect the guy as he's won the World Cup and led the one of the most dominant cricket teams in history. His onfield behaviour has been, at times, childish - but he's a team player and there's worse cases of onfield behaviour than disputing a bad light call.

And the fact he's got so much talent at his disposal means we must respect him why exactly?

What of that is his own doing?

Hmm hmm, I see. Your rebuttal's a masterful. I'm surprised you didn't say "It doesn't matter if they're exagerrated because we WON the ASHES."
OK then, please show me where I have excused England's performances because we won the Ashes?

All I can say is that the Aussie's haven't just taken cricket to new levels.... You don't hear the Zimbos moaning about dodgy no ball calls after they get paid ten rand a month, he should wake up and see what a privelaged position he holds..
You left out the 'g' on 'rand'... :p
