Not sure when Kapil was ever a better bowler than Walsh, even when he was the 4th seamer.

Or where Kapil had an advantage over him. Courtney played just as long with much better results, like muchhhh better. So you can't even say longevity.

One is a borderline ATG bowler, just in the outside, but close. The other isn't in the vicinity. Hence I'm not picking a clearly inferior bowling for lower order batting.
Kapil wasnt better than Walsh but a career in WI mainly would bring him close enough for his batting to make a difference I think and WI to select him.

Ishant Sharma wasn't a particularly great bowler and he is still better than Zaheer Khan. Peers with Chris Martin

He was pretty bad but honestly, might have been better than fat Botham tbh.

Botham spent a decade averaging 37 and picking up 2.8 wickets a game. He might've ended up averaging 40+ if he'd had to bowl on 2000s roads tbh. He was astonishingly bad after 1982.

He would've won India matches for the first half of his career and been equally as crap as the other pace bowlers but could bat letting you add an extra spinner for the second half. It's a no brainer.

India also had some decent batsman in the wings so the loss of Dravid would be lessened.

I don't think any of them were clearly better , if at all, than Bumrah at their respective bests tbh.

They're better bowlers due to durability/length of career and maybe for McGrath/Steyn for reasons like flatter conditions to deal with.
We can agree to disagree.

I'm not even counting longevity, but to quote a popular refrain, availability is the most important ability. Durability is very much a part of that.

Steyn and McGrath did have flatter conditions to contend with and the pitches these days are way more result focused than even the pitches of the 80's.

I already responded to the better part in another post, and again we're free to disagree. But it sounds like you believe that he's already in the conversation to be the best bowler ever, I don't think he's quite there.

2000s India switch Dravid for Botham?
Yes - even latter half career Botham is a big step up for Indian pace in the 2000s

70s/80s England exchanging Botham for Pollock?
Yes they should but I don't think they actually would

Current India exchanging Bumrah for Sobers?
No

2010s Australia exchanging Smith for Ambrose?
No

90s Pakistan exchanging Wasim and Waqar for Murali and Sanga?
No

80s India exchanging Kapil for Walsh?
Yes
All looks reasonable.

the pitches are kinda super spicy rn due to modern audience being very critical of draw inducing wickets.
Yup, and added to juiced balls and less capable batsmen.

I personally prefer it, just would like the batsmen to adapt a bit.

Why did they make Graeme Smith the captain?

Shaun Pollock as captain 14-5-7 (not atg but still SA were definitely second best in the world at that point), they didn’t beat Australia in that period and drew a series with SL but won every other series.

Pollock as captain:

26 matches 998 runs @ 41.58 2 tons 103 @ 21.36 4 5’fers 22 catches

coincidence that Pollock’s decline began after this????

Big anti Pollock conspiracy
