Maybe for the 80s WI where Walsh is just a 4th seamer, Kapil would be a better bowler in those pitches and a bowling AR.There's zero scenarios where I'm picking Kapil for a test team over a Courtney Walsh..

I think all of this is pretty debatable.. And I don't agree with the Steyn oneMarshall
McGrath
Hadlee
Steyn / Ambrose
Bumrah
And mind you, when you say you're not swapping anyone for Bumrah, those 3 at the top were, even at this the peak of Bumrah's powers, better. Ambrose pre surgery and Steyn on his day as well
100%Bumrah is the first ATG level fast bowler our country has produced. I'm not giving up that for even Bradman tbh even if it doesn't make sense from a cricket perspective.
I don't think any of them were clearly better , if at all, than Bumrah at their respective bests tbh.Marshall
McGrath
Hadlee
Steyn / Ambrose
Bumrah
And mind you, when you say you're not swapping anyone for Bumrah, those 3 at the top were, even at this the peak of Bumrah's powers, better. Ambrose pre surgery and Steyn on his day as well, but especially those two at the very top....that's what dynasties are made of.
I do think Bumrah has a more diverse arsenal than either thoughI don't think any of them were clearly better , if at all, than Bumrah at their respective bests tbh.
They're better bowlers due to durability/length of and maybe for McGrath/Steyn for reasons like flatter conditions to deal with.
He clearly wins against anyone except Marshall based purely on diversity. Him vs Marshall on variety is still arguable.I do think Bumrah has a more diverse arsenal than either though
80s India exchanging Kapil for Walsh?
Again McGrath and others are more durable to last an entire long series.I do think Bumrah has a more diverse arsenal than either though
NoCurrent India exchanging Bumrah for Sobers?
Honestly would be hard for India to turn down Sobers since their batting has weakened and Sobers is the extra pacer they need.
Again I agree. But that wasn't what the discussion was on really.Again McGrath and others are more durable to last an entire long series.
I'll turn down Bradman too.Honestly would be hard for India to turn down Sobers since their batting has weakened and Sobers is the extra pacer they need.
But without Bumrah they arent winning games overseas.
Doesn't sound that awful, they aren't gonna be winning overseas games for a while either wayBut without Bumrah they arent winning games overseas.
Eh think you're downplaying how bad later career Botham was. He averaged 37 in the last 10 years of his career. Basically pre-2016 Ishant Sharma numbers in a bowler friendly era.2000s India switch Dravid for Botham?
Yes - even latter half career Botham is a big step up for Indian pace in the 2000s
Ishant Sharna is a big step up of 2000s Indian pace bowlers.Eh think you're downplaying how bad later career Botham was. He averaged 37 in the last 10 years of his career. Basically pre-2016 Ishant Sharma numbers in a bowler friendly era.
Peak Botham would be a no-brainer trade.
Overall Botham is a quality enough pacer India would need in the 2000s even at the expense of their best bat.Eh think you're downplaying how bad later career Botham was. He averaged 37 in the last 10 years of his career. Basically pre-2016 Ishant Sharma numbers in a bowler friendly era.
Peak Botham would be a no-brainer trade.
I wouldn’t call it a bowler friendly era tbh. Not that I disagree with your main point.Eh think you're downplaying how bad later career Botham was. He averaged 37 in the last 10 years of his career. Basically pre-2016 Ishant Sharma numbers in a bowler friendly era.
Peak Botham would be a no-brainer trade.
