Disappointing players

Ja, but they're all disappointments. Very good 1st class players, juuuuuust not good enough to make that final step up.

Ahmed Amla & Jon Kent especially. Benky got jerked around a lot I thought. If he got half as much rope as they've given McKensie, we'd have known for certain. But a series every other year coming in at 6, playing for your spot all the time is really rough.

Loads of players havent lived up to thier obvious talent, unfortunatly most have been English, Hick, Ramprakash, Tudor, Schofield, Solanki, to name but a few, but it's good to list one Aussie on the List, Although he had a great record i always think Mark Waugh could have done better !

True, but I disagree with Schofield and Solanki

If Schofield hadn't been a leggie, we would have laughed at him..
Most people on this forum are willing to accept that Solanki has always been a flash in the pan, once in a while merchant, never capable of performing properly at international level..

That goes double or triple for Ian Salisbury! :D

Hasn't he got the worst bowling average for a specialist test bowler who's played more than 6 tests or something?

Ive seen a lot of worse specialist spinners play test cricket..

Unfortunatly Hansie and Inzamam, two fantastic players took to a guy who wasn't exactly Shane Warne..

Think you've hit the nail on the head there: Mr Warne. There was a time in the early-mid nineties when seemingly every team had a leggie. Pakistan has Mushtaq Ahmed, Oz had Warnie (obv) & MacGill, India had Kumble & even the dear old Zimbas had Paul Strang (another one in the "whatever happened to" file).

I think we felt obliged to reply in kind. IDKS was the best of our v shallow pool of wrist-spin talent.

To be fair, he had a good crack of the whip. Musta played over a dozen tests.

Bryan Strang and Wavell Hinds could have, can still do, more
Mark Waugh was a fine test player the only thing I can think of is that he should have had a higher score than 153*

Add to that the entire Bangladesh cricket team

i thought mark waugh was a bit "dissapointing" in the later stages of his carear, with a top score of only 153 and a string of low scores

What about Andre Adams and Lou Vincent.
PS Paul Strang is apparently playing club cricket in Auckland

despite lou vincent's hundred on debut, he has never done anything much to say he has that much potential
here's a few of the top of my head

Graeme Hick
Vinod Kambli
Brett Lee(already 28)
Mark Lathwell
Matthew Horne(could have done so much better)
Chris Drum(should of had more opportunities)
Shayne O'Connor/Dion Nash/Geoff Allot(all wrecked by injury)
Chris Cairns(has missed as much tests as he has played)
Mike Brearley

Come on, no one ever really had anything to be disappointed about.
Right from his first test scores, it was obvious that his batting was hardly a special talent which he had wasted - 0, 17, 40, 13, 5, 5, 59, 29, 4, ...

I might be crazy but im actually a fan of Ian Blackwell. i saw him make 70 odd in a totesport league match last season and he looked the finnished article. But he has not done any thing for england apart from the 82, he has a rare talent but i dont he will get much more oppertunities.

B.K.V.Prasad were two bowlers who I thought would do much more. Every one may say they were totally hopeless but to get an idea about the talent of Prasad, his bowling in 96/97 should be looked at.
Srinath and Prasad formed a very good combination in England and South Africa, but lacked support. Either the third seamer would pelt rubbish, or Kumble woulnd't be so effective and would get defensive fields. Not to mention they'd be a bowler short very often. The same pair would be found wanting on flat pitches.

That's just the point - Blackwell has never really scored many runs for Somerset.
He's just performed twice in televised games, which gave lots of people the idea that he's rather better than he is.
Blackwell shot to fame with his blazing innings in the C&G final against Kent, establishing himself as one of the hardest hitters of the ball. An England call-up was on the cards when Flintoff was injured, and he had a rather good Champions Trophy, while most other batsmen disappointed. He didn't make too many against Zim, but hit the ball hard and he took the attack to the Indians very well in the next match. However, lack of planning and adaptability have been a weakness, along with lack of bat-sense.

There was that match in the VB Series, where the English were chasing a total of slihtly over 250. Trescothick and Knight got a century partnership, till Tresco got out. Blackwell was sent at Number 3, he didn't spot the ball well at all. He was sent higher up to score quick, but scratched for not too many. That's the problem- lack of application.
