Dev League Suggestions

I don't see why people don't retire due to old age in this game.
It's only the 9th season of Dev league, and I'd guess around 3 quarters in the system haven't played since the first season. Considering IRL a good player's career can last anywhere between 11 seasons and around 18, it's a bit early for us to be all retiring, isn't it?

I think every team should be allowed to offer 8 contracts to players in their side. Cricketweb XI contracted players and captains of teams get to choose who they play for (I doubt any captains would want to change sides).

The contracts should be given on a 5-1 basis. A player who is not a Cricketweb XI contracted player but plays 50% or more games for cricketweb is given a level 5 contract which lasts for no more than 3 years. A player who plays 80% or more of their games for their dev league side is awarded a level 4 contract which can be no more than 2 years. A dev league player who plays 50% or more of their games with thier dev league side is awarded a level 3 contract which can be no more than 2 years. A dev league player who plays for between 20% & 49% of their games for their team is awarded a level two contract which can be no longer than 1 year. A level 1 contract is awarded to players who play less than 20% of their games for a dev league side or is a new rookie - this is a provisional contract and is for one year only.

What I suggested last night was better but I can't remember. Add the fact I had a few drinks at the uni bar this arvo and it makes it a bit harder to remember. But the main parts of my idea are contained within my synopsis.

It's also rare that test playing nations have players of the age of 13-16 playing full time for their first class sides.l

I don't mind being reincarnated after say 15 seasons and coming back as a 'rookie'. :p

i was thinking about it this afternoon and i have decided that personally i am in favor of a big shakeup.

my thought atm:
Each captain and VC stay, and decide on 3 other players that will stay in the side. of which a maximum of 3 can be Centrally contracted players. we than have 3 rounds of a 'draft' where players approach a side and than the captain and VC pick up players from those players, that is than repeated and than repeated again, i would suggest 1st round sides pick up 3 players, than 4 in the 2nd than 5 in the 3rd, any remaining players pick a side to join.

To make sure that everyone waas nicely mixed around players would be ineligible to join their old sides for the first 2 rounds.

a contract system could easily be put in place along side something like this (which i quite like the thought of) if the right system could be found.

I'm personally against a major reshuffle right now. If people want to move teams, they can simply say that they would like to move teams, and there you go. If captains want a player out of their team, I'm sure the player will want to leave because of that anyway. I don't see why we should force people to change sides.

to build unity, which apparently alot of people dont feel. than again you are in a new side yourself so you have already had a change too.

Although I won't make a big deal out of it, I can say that I never was informed that any change was actually going ahead.

As I said, age, if you want to change your team, you have the ability. Don't force it on others who would rather not. Why don't YOU change team? ;)

Maybe because you're only a small fish in the sea?

Like I said, I won't make a big deal about it. :p I'm the kind of person who goes with the flow. I just don't think a reshuffle is needed. I don't see any huge unity issues, personally. I think players should be able to stay with a team if they want to.
