Wednesday 9th March
CW Red v CW Black
at the SCG
Black fought back to crush the spirits of Red, after being bowled out for 167 on the first day at the SCG. Batting first, the Blacks collapsed against the Red seamers, with Watt taking 4 wickets to lead the charge. However, the Black bowlers hit back hard.
It was spin that was the order of the innings, with Pickup claiming 4 wickets. Red eventually made 229 all out, but that was hugely due to a characteristic hundred from the defiant Håkon Mørk. He received good support from Markus and Borcich, but shocking no one else passed 6.
A deficit of 67 to erase, Black began cautiously. Butler and Kearsley were united at 56/2 and showed all their class and experience in adding 101 runs for the third wicket. When Ghansar broke the partnership, 3 relatively quick wickets fell and the score later read 195/6. It was over to the youth to chip in. Mike Wilson was positive as always in reaching a half-century, then was out with the lead at 173.
Red was still in the driver's seat, but that changed very quickly. Callum Thompson, rather than complement Ash Chaulk's aggressive style of play, decided to be positive as well. The partnership of 129 seemingly demoralized the Reds players with its pace and stunning nature. CW Black finally folded for 415 and Dave Watt had 6 wickets to give him 10 for the match.
Chasing a target of 354, one considerably larger than expected, Red was never really in it. Mørk played a couple of fantastic drives off the seamers, but was then out caught at 2nd slip and things went downhill from there. Zaid Ghansar and Kenny Dobson showed the application required, but both got out after getting a good look at the bowlers. Dave Richards accounted for both batsmen on his way to a 5-wicket haul as reward for a terrific marathon spell.
The last 7 Red wickets crumbled for just 38 runs and defeat stood at a massive 227 runs.

CW Green v CW Blue
at the PDV Dome
Locked in fierce competition with CW Red for the third spot, Blue successfully proved that they could get thrashed worse than their counterparts. Indeed, the margin of victory imposed by a dominant CW Green was an innings and 46 runs.
Garven won the toss and batted first, only to see Malone and Feeney sent back with just 6 runs on the board. It was to be a false warning from Blue though, as two days of great batting were on the cards. Brendon Goff warmed up for the Test series with a comfortable boundary-filled half-century and put on 129 with Anthony Lezama. It was Lezama who truly shone though.
The young wicketkeeper-batsman featured in further partnerships of 144 with Verghese and 98 with captain Garven. He progressed to his second FC fifty and onward to a maiden hundred. He was eventually 6th out, but the damage was done and Green got to the massive score of 441.
Standing at the base of the towering total, Blue looked to the veterans to get some runs on the board. For the first time in while it was not to be. Fitzsimmons and Cloete scored 9 runs between them and Camps was left to consolidate with Peter Young. Both batsmen played patiently and Young went on to register the only 50 in the innings. Hoy took 4 wickets and Timewell 3 and Blue missed the follow on target, all out for 207.
A whole lot of work to be done, Camps batted cautiously before being knocked over by Hoy for a duck. Cloete later met the same fate to Cunningham. Fitzsimmons played a lot more freely though, and looked to be on his way to another FC fifty when he edged a Cunningham awayswinger behind. The core of the batting removed, de Silva's wicket was added for good measure and once again the burden was on the shoulders of Peter Young.
Young seemed to be willing himself back into the Test team and played exceptionally with Sean Fuller at his side. All the hard work done in reaching 50, he skied a pull shot to be caught at fine leg. From that point there was nowhere left to hide and Blue tumbled to 188 all out. Amazingly, Demeza managed to be dropped by 5 different fielders in his first 6 balls before Goff made the best of a second chance.
