Entry 7
Dear Diary
On a high Mr Diary, and no, its not off those Magic marker pens you can pick up for like 50 cents a pack. I officially made my debut for CW Blue. Even though it wasn`t the OD`s or FC and in fact it was 25Smash it was still the highlight of my cricketing life thusfar. To be able to put on that georgeous Blue uniform and head out to a packed crowd at CW oval was an experience I will never forget. CW Black batted first and put on a respectable 4/152 off their 25 overs. Then it was time to bat. I fully expected to merely be batting at 7 or 8 in my debut, but Skip said, to put the pads on, your going in with Craig. I tell you the butterflies in my stomach were as big as eagles as I faced up for the first time in CW cricket. Although my debut batting performance only contributed 7 runs off 9 balls with a streaky 4 through the 3rd slip region, it felt great. Anyway we ended up winning with 2 overs to spare and only the loss of 2 wickets. As Craig came off the field after scoring a blistering 91 off 66 balls with 10 fours and 3 sixes, I was quick to congratulate him and point out that in our partnership of 9 runs, I was far the dominant scorer and that he would have to shape up if he wanted to stay as my opening partner. After Craig released me from his vice like headgrip, we all had a big celelebration.
We then backed up at the PVD dome to meet CW green in another 25SMash game. Nerves were still high though not as bad as the first game. Perhaps this allowed me to get in the groove more as I made 30 off 32 balls with 4 fours in an opening stand of 68 off 71 balls with Craig. Craig went on to post another 50 though the batting hero for this game was Dylan Jellet with a whirlwind 52 off 39 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes. Stuey also sent the Green bowlers crashing wth a 17 ball 36 to wrack up a big score of 2/183.
Accurate bowling and tight fielding restricted the greens to 2/153 and ensured us of back to back victories. Although I still feel difficult in belonging, the exhilaration of being part of a CW team, and a winning team at that, is just....marvelous.
