David Warner

Do you think he is good enought to be playing international cricket?

I still think he's too boundary-reliant in general for one day cricket bar the odd freak innings; I've said so for ages. Probably does need to bat seven or so just as a power hitter really. Sehwag was spot on when he suggested his style would suit the longer version more as long as he got his head and his defence right, which he seems to have.
Ideally he should have played for another season for NSW before getting back into the ODI side. I do think he'll eventually find the right balance for ODI cricket. Any guy that can make back to back 100s in T20 cricket surely should be good enough to play ODI cricket.

I remember a couple of years back scoffing at my mum because she saw Dave Warner hit a couple of sixes in a T20 and said he should be picked for all forms. How humiliated do I feel

Hate it when that happens :p

Dad keeps making random uneducated predictions and I laugh at them before those very things he predicts unfold on the telly

The way the Aussies are selecting their side in recent years anything is possible. Never seen the guy in a first class match so looking forward to seeing if he has a good enough technique for the longer game. Got to be better than the one Hughes has anyway.

Going to be interesting seeing Warner play test matches. Sehwag's simple logic seems to make a lot of sense, non-slogging aggressive batters do stand a good chance of doing well in tests.

Would never have given Warner a chance of playing a Test match a few months ago, so I suppose it suggests two things - how far Australia have declined in this area and have so few good viable options available, and/or how hard Warner has worked on his game and transformed himself from a natural looking LO player into an opening bat with a technique tight enough for Test cricket and countering the new ball.

Maybe a bit of both. I haven't seen enough of him in the longer-format (then again I'm not sure anybody has) to know whether he is good enough and deserves a crack at Test cricket yet. My initial feeling is he will be exposed by a decent attack, this could be a good series for him to start off, but NZ's attack will fancy early wickets with him and Hughes at the top, surely.

tbh, there's never been anything dodgy about Warner's technique, has always played pretty straight when he needed to. It's just that, well, y'know, T20....

Yes I've barely seen him in proper cricket, so time will tell I guess. This is where any possible flaws are exposed.

Rather looking forward to catching the first hour or so tonight, and not only because I'll be doing it post-Movember...

Warner to replace Hughes as Australian opener after this series against NZ.

If both do well it could leave the new selectors with a very sticky choice regarding some of the more senior members of the top six.

Keen to see how Warner goes in the longer format tho; in my inexpert opinion he has a better technique than either Hughes or Khawaja. Only slight concern is that he does go hard at the ball sometimes, so wonder if he might not nick off on occasions, rather like Kieswetter.

Rather like Watson in fact.

Yeah that's pretty common opinion held by most NSW fans so a good spot from you, especially given you haven't seen much of them (or any of Warner in proper cricket in fact, where he does bat a bit differently).

Well it should, but we'll choose whoever has the best haircut or something.

Nah, you're spot on. He's worked ridiculously hard on his technique, so much so that it has changed his 20/20 game.

My only issue with Warner is that he hasn't really made a big score (100 plus even) against a top attack in First Class Cricket yet.

I'm excited for him and wish him the best though.
