Interestingly - and, as always, that's subjective - despite a 34-Test run where he averaged nearly 72, and a 52-Test run where he averaged 64, batting with extraordinary dominance and often when runs weren't easy to come by, there hasn't yet been a single vote for Virat Kohli.

I suppose a similar point could be made for Kane Williamson - a six-year, 47-Test run where he averaged 66 hasn't gotten him a vote yet either.

And Root who's got a better away record than both. Averages 48 away from home since 2018(when batting's got tough) compared to Kohli's 40 and Williamson's 36. Also has been around arguably England's worst ever batting lineup that collapses for under 200 every other innings, which makes it a lot harder in my opinion.

I feel its hard to decide when to start voting for them since all of their careers could change so much in the next 5 years, but I think it will be similar to how Smith is probably lower in the list than he should be. I expect Kohli to come back from his form dip and Williamson's away record to improve though.

To me, we are rating careers here and these are still not done. So makes sense not to pass judgement prematurely.
