CW's Ranking of All-Rounders (Tests)

What does it mean to select balanced allrounders like Miller or Botham higher than specialist ones like Kallis or Hadlee when we will likely put the latter ones in our side anyways? Specialist ones are simply better for the balance of the side in most cases.

Kallis
He has a runs v wickets average comparison of +22.72 compared with Imran's +14.78 - a difference too hard to ignore..
The difference of 20 of bat average of 45 and bowling average of 25, is not the same as bowl average of 20 and batting average of 35. At the lower end of bowling averages the frequencies taper off rapidly.

Botham averaged 21 with the bat and 35 with the ball against the greatest test team of all time. Imran averaged 28 with the bat and 21 with the ball against the greatest test team of all time.

Not much difference in batting I guess, but that bowling difference…
And he captained a side which drew with the greatest test team of all time. That is serious ****.

I think that get's overplayed. It's not like he wasn't a proper allrounder prior to 1988, after which he became a specialist bat until retirement. In fact, in his bowling peak from 80-88 he was also the best allrounder in the world.
Glad to see that baseless myth put to rest once and for all.
