McGrath is at far less rate of penetration. Steyn until he was injured in his last Aus test was taking 5 WPM. If your WPM and SR are good, it doesn't matter if your average is >25.
However Steyn did blow hot and cold vs Aus. I argue his performance in 2009 lost them that series on bowling friendly wickets.
Other than the average, they are about as different as you can get.

Once again, a slightly higher average is fine as long as wickettaking rate is maintained. Rather than like Ambrose taking 13 wickets in 4 tests against SA with a loss average but little match impact.
Do they? Those averages are still excellent by the standards of regular bowlers against strong opposition. Mcgraths WPM is pretty poor by the same standards, and is more of an issue.

They're probably wrong to do so. Picking up only around 3 wpm against arguably the strongest opposition of your era isn't particularly good.

Will say though, SA were the 2nd best team, but India were the best batting unit
