Wouldn't any argument for Barnes get him to trump all other modern bowlers?Barnes smokes him
Think Pigdeon and Macko still have a great shot to be ahead, given McGrath's superior Ashes record.Wouldn't any argument for Barnes get him to trump all other modern bowlers?
ok but if we believe the hype on Barnes he is supposed to be a sort of unplayable freak. Like realistically there shouldn't be any modern bowler achievement that reaches his level then unless someone is taking 6 WPM as a pacer.Think Pigdeon and Macko still have a great shot to be ahead, given McGrath's superior Ashes record.
So does Lohmann & SpofforthBarnes smokes him
they're unproven on hard, batting pitches while Barnes is proven on them.So does Lohmann & Spofforth
I feel like McGrath outbowling Barnes in Ashes in a much more batting friendly era is a pretty convincing enough argument for him to be somewhat ahead of Barnes.ok but if we believe the hype on Barnes he is supposed to be a sort of unplayable freak. But I don't really think we should rate him honestly.
Ok but then there are even more comparable or impressive feats from other pacers. Ambrose in Aus, Imran at home, Steyn in India, etc.I feel like McGrath outbowling Barnes in Ashes in a much more batting friendly era is a pretty convincing enough argument for him to be somewhat ahead of Barnes.
I'd say Barnes along Bumrah, Hadlee and Ambrose is a top 4 tourist of Australia and his home record is monsterous, though, I do wonder how much of that is the resultant of helpful matting/wet wickets.Ok but then there are even more comparable or impressive feats from other pacers. Ok. I think that's similar to my wrestling with Hobbs. I don't think Hobbs should be number 2 but I don't think he deserves to be outside the top tier of bats and ideally have him at no.3.I'd say Barnes along Bumrah, Hadlee and Ambrose is a top 4 tourist of Australia and his home record is monsterous, though, I do wonder how much of that is the resultant of helpful matting/wet wickets.
still, Barnes at home is a bigger devitation from his contemporaries than Steyn or Hadlee at home, only beaten by Imran in home bowling from what I can tell, and in South Africa, while the conditions were ideal for his bowling, he also had the single greatest series any bowl to walk on planet Earth ever had when he took 50 wickets in 4 games, overall he's a good shout for number one but I'm more comfortable placing Macko and Pigeon above him.

SadistI hope Bumrah ends up with a 20.01 average.
Muttiah Muralitharan ending up with 799 test wickets would have been fkn crazyIts cool actually. A lot of the big records fall just short of those pretty numbers which kinda makes them more special.
