the guy cant score on any wicket that offers even a little assistance for the bowlers and gets out play some of the stupidest shots that you'll ever see and hes underrated in tests why?
Agreed, Gayle is average in Tests and rated as such. Under-rated in ODIs though.

I would suggest Richardson, but it seems that with the series against England people have noticed that, yes, his test average really is 48.

Surely Jacobs would make the reserves ahead of McCullum though.
Maybe at the moment, but I think McCullum has a ton of so far internationally unrecognised potential to be a really top class player. His batting has improved a huge amount in the last year, and the number of costly easy dropped chances seems to have decreased also.

And had he converted more of his 50's and three of his Test 90's (two of them were rough decisions), then he could be averaging close to 60. Well certainly between 53-55.

And one you could not say has benefited from flat wickets.

Because of comments like that, I think that he has the potential to score runs on bowler friendly wickets as he is a great batsman with a wide range of shots. He gets out to stupid shots, yes, but that problem can be fixed, allowing him to acheive his full potential.
so let him prove himself and then we'll rate him!
btw he may have a range of shots but there is also a lack of technique and temperament to be able to use them successfully....

I'm using the Trescothick criticism by tec as a guide.
despite the fact that both of them have poor footwork and are flat track/poor bowling bullies, there are differences between the 2. trescothick does have a much better temperament,a better technique and doesnt often throw his innings away with poor strokes.

Coincidentally he's also 4 years older than Gayle and entered Test cricket at the age that Gayle is now.

PS- Treco's born on Christmas day. Didn't know that...

Good, but not outstanding.

Indeed, but it isn't his fault. The selectors (otherwise know as the N.S.W. media) have put him in too early before he has got the experience that he needs. With that in mind I think he has done a good job. But, that doesn't mean I think he should be in the team.

I can't understand how one can have a thread supposedly about underrated players without there being a single mention of Rikki Clarke, given that he couldn't be rated any lower around here than he already is.

Cheers,

Mike

True, very true.

This is a very subjective thread. How can you say for sure who is underrated and who is not? A player that someone thinks is underrated will be thought of as overrated by others. You might think that someone like Mark Richardson is underrated yet many people would rate him highly. You might say Rikki Clarke is not rated very highly but that does not mean he is underrated because he might actually deserve to be thought of as a poor player. etc etc....

See my point?

Hold it you have Imran Farhat to open and yet you have Marvan Attapatu batting at 5, when he is an opener and Lehmann at 4.

Where is any logic in that?
