Why would you pick a dud ahead of someone who looks really good? No comprendo
The E word, basically. Plus also while Siddle's declining, I'd still want more info before fully deciding Behrendorff's better. I also think I'd be tempted to go for the guy who won't break/let you down even if his upside isn't the greatest if it got to the stage where I have to pick my 8th choice quick.

what about reece topley?
Doesn't play for Somerset.

Nah seriously, he's not particularly quick, and is made of glass, still young though I suppose.

Mills and Dunn and perhaps Curran all have serious wheels, if they could find some consistency they could be decent. Wood looks the best, but another who is always injured.

That is the problem, they are all very young or injury prone or both. We have nothing really in the 23-27 age bracket which means things look pretty bleak unless one or more of the kids step up considerably in the next year/18 months.

Hmm I haven't done this for a while. Our list is a bit tricky because we've got a pretty severe lack of depth all around (though our batting resources make it look like our pacers are growing on trees!!). This is my list which I think is sensible and based on a combination of stats, abilities and potential. The selectors are worse than useless so they would no doubt have other ideas but nevermind.

1) Kemar Roach - One of the World's best. Poor injury record though, very frustrating.
2) Jerome Taylor - Unstoppable on his day, beautiful run up and action. Plagued by poor injury record and inconsistency.
3) Jason Holder - Tall, accurate, great seam position so gets each way movement. Only medium fast.
4) Kenroy Peters - Left armer, short, not fast but is incredibly accurate, bowls a good length and swings and seams the ball both ways.
5) Shannon Gabriel - Fast, fit, much improved, doesn't move the ball enough though.
6) Sheldon Cotterell - Left armer, brisk, nasty, bowls devestating spells sometimes. Inconsistent, not fit enough for test cricket.
7) Ronsford Beaton - Fast, moves the ball, aggressive, young. Needs to take more domestic wickets to progress.
8) Miguel Cummins - Very talented, pretty fast and moves the ball. Was higher up the list but has lost some form.
9) Carlos Braithwaite - Tall, fast-medium, seams the ball, accurate. Solid but unspectacular.
10) Marquino Mindley - 19 years old, nippy, moves the ball a lot. Already in provisional 30 for the World Cup.

Honourable mentions to Marlon Richards, Nelon Pascal, Gavin Tonge, Kevin McLean, Fidel Edwards and Tino Best. When you put it like that we've got some pretty good talent, certainly a better pool to choose from then the batsmen.

Bump.

How I'd pick it, not how the selectors would.

1. Johnson
2. Harris
3. Pattinson
4. Hazlewood
5. Bird
6. Bollinger
7. Hilfenhaus
8. Siddle
9. Behrendorff
10. Sayers

Johnson is #1 ahead of Harris due to general X-factor and the fact that he doesn't break down so easily. Pattinson I still rate highly, and the fact that he was an attack leader before his two long-term injuries means I still have him third, but I reckon Hazlewood could be anything in the future. Bird also impressed me in limited appearences.

Bollinger apparently has his pace back, and he was pretty damn good when playing for Australia. Hilfenhaus is gun when his arm is working but pretty meh at best if it's not. Not sure how he's bowling at Shield level but he is taking regular poles. Siddle is a dud these days IMO, but he won't let you down and is a lot more fitter than a lot of the pecking order. Behrendorff looks really good to me and has performed excellently at Shield level. Sayers I'm not sure about but he generally takes poles regardless of who he plays for and he'll appeal in the right conditions.

I didn't include Cummins due to the fact that he hasn't played Shield cricket in 4 seasons. If he wasn't in cotton wool he'd be at least 6th. Starc is a crap red-ball bowler IMO.

Notable names who didn't make my list but might make lists for other countries - Hopes, Cutting, Hastings, Copeland, Abbott, Sandhu, Rainbird, Putland, Butterworth, Faulkner, Mennie, Paris, Hogan, Feldman and Fekete. (yes I'm aware that's pretty much all of the Shield quicks. But given their performances and the depth of other countries they would come under consideration IMO).
No, Harris is your number 1 bowler.

1. Tim Southee
2. Trent Boult
3. Neil Wagner
4. Doug Bracewell
5. Matt Henry
6. Adam Milne
7. Hamish Bennett
8. Ben Wheeler
9. Graeme Aldridge
10. Michael Bates

The top four are the reality of the pecking order so I just went for that. Henry has to be 5th on performance. I've left out Small because he's injured and Gillespie because from what I saw in the vault the other day, he's back to "booming" through the crease, and Arnel appears to be in decline too. Mitch M just hasn't delivered bar the odd performance in red ball cricket and keeps getting outbowled by his team mates.

Aldridge is the ultimate domestic medium pacer and Michael Bates isn't far behind so while they're not fashionable, they're good solid bowlers so they're my #9 and #10. Realistically only the top eight are getting near the test side but eight guys ready or almost ready for test cricket is fine.

Cummins' stocck must have fallen a bit. You guys were hoping he would be a starter this time last year iirc.

Well in Pakistan our bowling stocks are freefalling as from where they used to be. The fact that Tanvir and Riaz are key bowlers is sad. A few kids at home are:

Sadaf Hussain
Mir Hamza

Pace wise though we no longer have guys who can consistently hit above the 140s with swing and/or variation. Mohammad Amir will be back in a year but of course there is so much that is associated with him that to rely on him is fools gold.

How come the vast majority of Pakistan quicks bowl with their left hand? Particularly given the world is predominantly right-handed....

Is the order I'd choose them in. Milne is gun but reckon he needs a PS season to be Test ready, which might be difficult if he's on ODI duty. Dougeh's lead PS bowler so far this season but tbf looking at vault footage it doesn't really excite me or fill me with confidence.
