CWLand's Randy Smeltz was in prime form throughout qualifying as he failed to drop a set throughout en route to earning a qualifying spot in the main draw of the Brasil Open. Smeltz had little trouble in his 6-0 6-3, 6-3 6-1, and 6-1 6-1 wins as he spent just under four hours on court. Smeltz proved far too good for all his opponents - Miguel Molina not spared in the qualifying final - as he looked to be right at home on the clay courts in Costa do Sauipe. It wasn't really a successful tournament for compatriot Suryakant Singh as he departed in the second round in straight sets. Singh came from a set down to defeat Harpreet Gupte in the first round, but struggled to impose himself on his clash with fifth seed Pablo Scalforo. The Italian was too good as he advanced to a final (where he would prevail) with a 6-0 6-4 victory.

Qualifiers: 1-Aldo Marín (PAR); 5-Pablo Scalforo (ITA); Randy Smeltz (CWL); 6-Paolo Mandonna (ARG).
Wildcards: Rafael Carioca (BRA); Anderson Dos Santos (BRA); Marzio Claverini (BRA).

ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament
Qualifiers - Rotterdam

Rotterdam was a happy hunting ground for CWLand as both Brett Read and Sven Svensson earned spots in the main draw of the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament. In a qualifying tournament with just sixteen competitors, the wildcard Svensson overcame the odds to win both of his matches against seeded players. In his first match, Svensson managed a hard-fought win against eighth seed Michael De Kinsele before having a much easier time of it against second seeded Croat Stipo Vučemilović with a straight sets win. Read had a tougher final as he defeated seventh seed Ryan Miller in three sets, 7-6(1) 5-7 6-1 after an easy opening match against Russian Yevgeny Pushkov. The pair join fellow CWLander Jefferson Drake in the main draw.

Qualifiers: 6-Gjorgi Dinov (MKD); WC-Sven Svensson (CWL); 5-Harry Thompson (AUS); 4-Brett Read (CWL).
Wildcards: Walter Viedman (NED); Tom Velten (NED); Marc Lubbers (NED).

Spas Delev and Jean-Paul Valley both found their way into the main draw at San Jose in different ways - Delev advancing in the playoff final against his compatriot, whilst Valley was given a wildcard into the SAP Open. Delev found it tough going throughout his three matches as he was taken the distance on each occasion - coming back from a set down to defeat Miguel Sanchez in the first round and Valley in the final. It was a disappointing exit for Valley after he looked impressive in his first two matches. In the first round, Valley had a fight on his hands against fellow CWLander Martti Korpinen. Korpinen fought hard in his first match, but Valley was able to advance in straight sets 7-5 7-6(3).

Qualifiers: 8-Strongth Badlee (USA); Kim Vollan (NOR); Imre Medgyessy (HUN); Spas Delev (CWL).
Wildcards: Jean-Paul Valley (CWL); 5-Randy Bruce (USA); 2-Samuel Thorpe (USA).
