After initially struggling with the 3rd set tiebreaker, we've come good with it recently. Certainly doing well in the doubles lately.

Intersport Heilbronn Open
2nd Round - Heilbronn (Germany) - Indoor Clay

Men's singles (Finals - Seeds - Top Half - Bottom Half)
Men's doubles (Draw)
  • A toothless performance from seventh seed Roy Daniels has been compounded by defeat on the German clay as compatriot Matt Bre advanced to the quarter finals in Heilbronn. In his biggest chance at stringing games together since a knee injury sidelined him back in May, Daniels lacked intensity as Bre dominated the first set with some confident returning against the seventh seed. Daniels' lifted his first serve percentages in the second set above fifty, and it paid off as he seemed to find his groove against his younger opponent. But he was unable to make any inroads on the Bre serve in the decider, and after saving five break points throughout the set finally gave up service in the eleventh game to allow Bre to serve out the match 6-2, 4-6, 7-5. Bre now faces American teen Strongth Badlee who upset former French Open runner-up Thomas Velten 6-4, 6-3.
  • Randy Banks has advanced to his second Challenger quarter final with a 7-6(4), 6-4 victory over Serbia's Savo Petkoviä. Banks started slowly as the Serbian doubles player quickly stormed out to a 5-1 lead. However a great fighting display allowed him to get back from the double break down to steal the set in a tiebreaker. From there, the aggressive Banks started to gain in confidence and control the second set to advance to the quarters 7-6(4), 6-4. There he faces in-form Argentine Miguel Bertolotto who just a fortnight ago made the semi finals of the ATP tournament in Bangkok (that tournament saw him stun world No. 5 Darcy Cowan in straight sets).
  • Fifth seed Scotland Rivers looks a good chance of making another Challenger final and continuing his ascent up the rankings after again coming through a tough test in straight sets. Wildcard Peter Seel seemed to play the best tennis in the first set, but was unable to take his opportunities before falling in a tiebreaker. Rivers then came out of his shell in the second set and looked more assertive on the Seel serve; picking up a 7-6(2), 6-3 win. He faces world No. 202 Yevgeny Pushkov in the quarter finals following the Russian's win over Mikel Fosdike.

  • Seeded players out:
    Roy Daniels.
  • Gurpreet Rao & Suryakant Singh overcame a sluggish start to upstage Dutch duo Tommy Schaap & Thomas Velten in the doubles draw. The Dutch pair fought hard in the first set and their persistence paid off as they took the set 7-5. But Rao and Singh fought back and did not give up an inch from then on as they secured a 5-7, 6-1, 10-7 win. It gets tough from here with second seeds Mikel Fosdike & Christian Mary waiting in the second round in this strong draw.
  • Unfortunately Matt Bre & Marcuss Deane could not repeat that success as they fell in straight sets to Denis Isaev & Marcus Heindrich. The CWLanders started well with a break of serve in the first game, but struggled to keep that momentum as the experienced doubles performance Isaev combined well with Heindrich. After dropping the first set, Deane and Bre held their first three service games before capitulating to a 6-2, 6-3 defeat.

  • Seeded players out:
    Matthias Müller &
    Tim Zander.

The break that it went on sort of coincided with me losing interest and having a **** load of other stuff going on. I'm still tossing up between keeping it as is, or restructuring the length of the season. The latter would probably see Davis Cup, 4 Grand Slams, all the Masters Series and then the odd other tournament and probably 'Super Challengers' with larger fields.

Either way, I am intent on continuing this beyond season 1.

Would that be my first ever quater-finals appearance?

Either way, i'm stoked at the win, and I believe I can win the next match.

Great news. If there's any way that I can help, I'll assist in some way. I guess it depends on the software & database requirements, but I could run the challengers to allow you to focus on the Main Events or something.

Also, this blatantly needs its own forum. (hint hint)

That'd be pretty cool actually. At the end of the day, this doesn't have software requirements outside of Excel and random.org.

Quarterfinals (Day 5) - Shanghai (China) - Indoor Hard

Men's singles (Finals - Seeds - Section 1 - Section 2 - Section 3 - Section 4)
Men's doubles (Finals - Top Half - Bottom Half)
  • Unpredictable Serb Danijel Micic will play in the biggest match of his season on Saturday after stunning world No. 2 Daniel Páez Blanco in three sets. Micic, who almost unanimously is regarded as one of the biggest underachievers of the inaugural ATP season, was made to scrap against the French Open champion, but ultimately pulled through 6-4, 3-6, 7-5. In the second semifinal, he plays fellow unseeded player Patrick Pascaul who likewise continued his brilliant end of season run with a scrappy 7-5, 6-7(5), 6-3 victory over Davis Kennedy.
  • In the first semifinal, world No. 1 Jason Hall will yet again meet world No. 3 Radek Špidlá. Hall started slowly against an aggressive Illya Altman, before absolutely wiping the Ukrainian off the court in three sets 4-6, 6-0, 6-1 in an awesome display of striking. In the only match to be decided in straight sets, Špidlá had little trouble in disposing of sixth seed József Boros 7-5, 6-1 to advance to his fourth Masters Series semifinal. Hall and Špidlá have met on four occasions, with Hall holding a 3-1 record.

  • Seeded players out:
    Illya Altman;
    József Boros;
    Daniel Páez Blanco.
  • In the doubles draw, Rob Bowenburg & Jarkko Maxum pulled off a monumental upset to defeat French Open champions Sandro Bachunelli & Hicham Hadir. After stealing a win off the fifth seeds, a confident CWLand duo emerged to take the fight right up to the third seeded pair as they captured a stunning straight sets win. With Bowenburg looming dangerous at the net and Maxum patrolling the lines, the Italian-Moroccan pair had no answer as they tumbled out 7-6(5), 7-5. The unseeded duo now face their sternest test yet against top seeds Hugh James & Ralph Robinson.
  • Fourth seeds Heath Davis & Jojo Mustard were not so lucky in their quarterfinal as they fell in straight sets to Andrej Konc & Evgeniy Maximov. The Belarusian-Slovak duo played confident tennis and look in a good position to make their second Masters Series final after racing through the second set tiebreaker to prevail 6-3, 7-6(0). The pair would have expected to come up against hardened Moroccan brothers Hayden & Ross Onwye, but they stumbled to a shock 6-2, 7-6(1) defeat against inconsistent Belgian team Mark Harmel & Yves Parmentier. The loss and subsequent victory to James and Robinson ensures Hayden Onwye will lose his ranking as world No. 1 doubles player.

  • Seeded players out:
    Sandro Bachunelli &
    Hicham Hadir;
    Heath Davis &
    Jojo Mustard;
    Hayden Onwye &
    Ross Onwye

Sweet. How do you do the pictures of the draws, seedings and stuff like that? We'd obviously have to co-ordinate so to coincide the challenger events with the main events, but I think we could manage it somehow.

In other news, a disappointing failure for Davis/Mustard in the doubles. Abject failure.

Pretty much all of the draws and seeds and stuff are done in Excel. The only thing that isn't is doubles seedings and Davis Cup cards - those are done in Wikipedia and just copying the CWLand flag over the Bahamas one.

  • CWLand's Matt Bre could secure a place inside the world's top 130 with just one more victory after advancing to the semifinals with a big win over American teen Strongth Badlee. Avenging his previous quarterfinal defeat in Belgium, Bre overcame the world No. 185 in just seventy minutes in a confident display. Badlee started strongly, but was unable to keep the pressure on the explosive Bre who, despite the slow surface, struck the ball firmly and unsettled the American mid-way through the first set. After taking the first, Bre met no resistance and eased through to a maiden semifinal 6-4, 6-0.
  • His opponent, though, will not be fellow CWLander Randy Banks after he fell to Argentina's Miguel Bertolotto. Banks managed to claw his way back from being a break down in the first set, but failed to capitalise on that fightback as Bertolotto domianted the tiebreaker. Whilst he started the second set promisingly, the Argentine looked the more confident on the surface and quickly secured a break to produce a 7-6(1), 6-3 win. Despite the loss, Banks is certain to jump inside the world's Top 200 and possibly as high as No. 190.
  • In the bottom half, Scotland Rivers has a chance to make his second consecutive clay court final after running past Russian giant-killer Yevgeny Pushkov. Pushkov had already upstage second seed Oleg Puder and French Open round of 32 competitor Mikel Fosdike, but didn't have enough in the tank for Rivers who scratched out another tight win; 7-6(4), 6-3. Rivers hasn't dropped a set this week, but has been taken to two tiebreakers and a 7-5 in his three opening sets. He will need to improve on that start if he is to match Denis Isaev who pantsed Dimitris Chasiotis 6-3, 6-1.

  • Seeded players out:
    Dimtris Chasiotis.
  • Gurpreet Rao & Suryakant Singh have produced the largest upset of the quarterfinals in the doubles; coming from a set down to defeat second seeds Mikel Fosdike & Christian Mary. Rao and Singh played poorly in the first set, before finding their range and playing confident tennis to secure a 3-6, 6-2, 11-9 win. They face Denis Isaev & Marcus Heindrich in the semifinals.

  • Seeded players out:
    Mikel Fosdike &
    Christian Mary.
