It may not have been starring like Warne in ‘99 but Murali was their best bowler when SL won their world cupHe had good figures in 2007 and 2011. My minor issue is that Murali never had a starring role in winning his team a WC like the other bowling elites. But I don't mind him or Warne in the XI.
Irrelevant.
He wasn't really. He was just a tidy bowler and got 7 wickets in 6 games. Jaya was the key bowler in the semis and De Silva in the final. It may not have been starring like Warne in ‘99 but Murali was their best bowler when SL won their world cup
yet again missing the point of best bowler. Has the best average barring De Silva in the tournament for SL who only bowled in 3 matches, best economy rate and is only beaten by Jayasuriya in the strike rate. 7 wickets is the most anyone got for SL. The team collectively bowled well but Murali was the best in it by a fair marginHe wasn't really. He was just a tidy bowler and got 7 wickets in 6 games. Batting is an important factor below 8 too. If it is 10 off 6 or 20 off 10 with 2/3 wickets in hand, a batsman will much rather see Pollock, Hadlee and Warne at the other end than Mcgrath, Garner and Murali.McGrath and Garner. Pollock is an ATG bowler as well, but McGrath’s far better record as a bowler in WC’s wins it for him. Below 8, I don’t think batting is an important factor for me. Tho Pollock is probably a greater ODI cricketer overall above McGrath.
Yeah this is why it's important to pick Garner here - for his far superior batting.Batting is an important factor below 8 too. If it is 10 off 6 or 20 off 10 with 2/3 wickets in hand, a batsman will much rather see Pollock, Hadlee and Warne at the other end than Mcgrath, Garner and Murali.
Why?I wanted to vote Nizakat Khan as opener.
