And I have never made my views a secret, the same way you support Hammond and Sutcliffe, I admire Marshall and believe he was the best and greatest ever.
You think he is among the top 3 greatest cricketers ever. Correct?

Do you think he is a greater cricketer than Bradman? Sobers? Viv?

And justifiably so!! I've seen some rather weak arguments against MM being the greatest. For example this notion that he bowled in a champion team, he faced poor lineups bla bla bla. This ignores the fact that there are numerous bowlers with gun records as lone wolves (Murali, hadlee Steyn) and others who have great records as part of a pack (mm, warne, mcgrath). But I'd argue that there's never been any before or since with his universal greatness. Nor his ability to bowl anything, to intimidate, and to out think. Of the pace men I've seen, only Imran, mcgrath, hadlee and lately Steyn run him close.

In terms of pure cricketing skills he's imo the second best after sir Gary among west Indians. Worldwide for me, he'd be behind the top shelf all rounders : Imran, Sobers, Kallis/miller (maybe) and the Don of course. And maybe a few batsmen

yeah, would agree with this actually.

The reason I rate Imran and Hadlee so high is that they're close to MM in terms of bowling skill while significantly better as batsmen.

I didn't see Sobers bat but from the ones that I have seen Marshall would still rank second to Viv.

Yes I rate him in my top 3. Best batsman, bowler, all rounder.

Bradman obviously, then Marshall then Sobers.

Bradman's record helps him to clear the pack. But otherwise for me bowlers are the match winners so they hold greater importance in the team. Sobers for me is third. Not only is he arguably the best after Bradman (and for me at worse 2nd best after Bradman) but he was a versatile fast support bowler and for me just as importantly a sublime slip fielder. Supreme elite level in 2 facets and amazing unparalleled versatility in the 3rd. That's what separates him from the other all rounders for me.

Actually I strangely forgot about sir Richard but he's right up there as far as great cricketers are concerned. I think the problem for him, is due to him being from a much smaller cricketing nation (nz). Had he been from an Oz or eng I think sir Richard would have gotten the reverence he so richly deserves; gun cricketer.

Despite being an exercise to determine the best bowler ever we have ended up with two great bowlers with genuine allround credentials - I wonder if that influenced voting

I'm going for the player listed fourth in 'David Gower's 50 Greatest Cricketers of All Time.' The players listed ahead of him are Tendulkar, Sobers, and Bradman.

Shane Warne changed the culture of the game. After an era dominated by fast bowlers, he arrived on the scene at just the right time to exploit the minds of batsmen armed with helmets, heavy bats and back-foot techniques designed to counter a battery of pace-men. Abdul Qadir had been the only spinner who regularly won matches for his country and he was only really effective at home in Pakistan. Warne proved dangerous across the world. He revived the art of spin bowling to a global audience just as satellite TV was bringing the game into their living rooms. Plenty of spin bowlers who have subsequently played Test cricket since said they were inspired by watching him.......

Although Muttiah Muralitharan’s Test record is superior, many leading batsmen who faced both were in no doubt that Warne was the superior operator, essentially for the reason that Tendulkar gave –that he never let them (or, it might be added, the umpires, whom he worked relentlessly) relax. Second best his statistics may be, but they are still astonishing: 708 wickets in 145 Tests at an average of 25.41. He took 195 wickets in 36 Tests against England alone: no bowler has ever taken more against one country.

not saying i plan on doing it right away coz these are tiring

but would a keeper, all-rounder or captain version of these tournaments be the most interesting
