Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
Came across this while browsing some scorecards under Imran's captaincy: https://www.espncricinfo.com/player/zahid-fazal-43697
Trueman and Statham presumably. Peter Loader was in a similar boat. Those bowling stats are more than respectable. How did he not play more?
By any chance, was Dera Ishmail Khan located in East Pakistan?Taimur Hasan, Jamil Ahmed, Javed Khan, Zain Yar, Qaiser Khan, Tariq Afridi, Maqbool Arif, Mohammad Hanif, Anwar Khan, Inayatullah, Fazal Matin.
All made their debut for Dera Ismail Khan on 2 Dec 1964, the team's first ever FC match, against Pakistan Railways.
Scores: Pakistan Railways 910-6d (Pervez Akhtar 337*, Anwar Khan 3-295 off just 46 overs, Inayatullah 1-279)
Dera Ismail Khan 32 (Anwar Khan 11*, Afaq Khan 7-14) and 27 (Jamil Ahmed 10, Ahad Khan 9-7).
Dera Ismail Khan lost by an innings and 851 runs, the biggest FC defeat ever, and didn't play another match for 19 years.
Still, three of them got into the record books: Anwar Khan and Inayatullah are in the top dozen or so for "most runs conceded in an innings", and Qaiser Khan was out obstructing the field. (They also got Pervez Akhtar into the books for "highest maiden hundred" - it was in fact his only first-class hundred).
Interesting.It's in KPK so no
Good shout, though Sam Trimble was the father - you're thinking of his son Glenn.Sam Trimble.
I think he only played 1 ODI. in the 1985/86 WSV v NZ.
I remember him quite vividly as the Australian CH9 commentators were so desperate for him to succeed. He had a shocker and was visually effected by nerves. Didn't score much and was bowling waste high full tosses when he bowled.
At the time, I didn't really understand, but even me as an 11 year old Aussie hating kiwi kid wanted him to succeed.
I assume the reason for this was his father was a Sheffield Shield legend, who never got an international opportunity, but did captain Australia when they sent B teams to NZ for non-test tours. Obviously the commentators were contemporaries of his father and had a lot of good will for him.
Condolencesany of you remember Tudge Bofa?
Not any more, suckers!Jack Noreiga who played just 4 tests for 17 wickets has the best bowling figures in an innings against India.
