Cricketers you have probably never heard of

Imraan Khan. Played a Test for SA in 2009. Stalwart in the SA domestic structure and now a coach. I sometimes forget he had a Test!
I always remember him from a Cricinfo Page 2 article on cricketer names. Not sure but may have been the same one which described Xenophon Balaskas as sounding 'like a musical instrument falling down a flight of stairs'. I miss the old Page 2 sometimes.

"Never has a cricketer sounded more like a musical instrument falling down a flight of stairs submerged in water" is the full quote (see here for the article). No mention of Imraan Khan, though.

JBMAC

State Captain
Garthe LeRoux, Colin Bland, Rohan Kanhai, Tayfield, John Inverarity, Voce, Ian Johnston, Phil Carlson, Sam Trimble....and there will be more as i think about them

Whatever it takes!!!
Thanks to statsguru and CW drafts, we have heard of quite a lot of that list.

And honestly dont think Kanhai, Bland and Tayfield belong in the thread at all. Most CW fans would have heard of them through their time in CW, if not before.

V V Kumar, Rajinder Goel, Padmakar Shivalkar. All had awesome FC careers (averaging sub 20) and yet a non existent or a near non existent test career.

Not many non Indians would have heard of them. Certainly would have been much famous had they been born in another era.

Also many of these unheard of cricketers seem to go on to coach cricketers at local levels which is great. VV Kumar did that, so does Ashok Malhotra that I earlier mentioned.

I remember Ashok Malhotra from random commentary stints on domestic cricket.

Bolo.

International Captain
Alan Kourie.

Not sure how good he was, before my time. He isnt very well regarded, and I assume there is a reason that i am unaware of.

But in FC he averaged low 20s (23??) as a finger spinner with the home ground of JHB, which at the time must have been one of the least spin friendly grounds in history. Not sure any spinner in RSA has averaged low 20s in half a century or more. And was one of the leading wicket takers in RSA domestic history.

Plus averaged mid 30s with the bat in an era that was insanely dominated by pace, and most specialist bats were averaging in the low 30s.

Really strong competition too, doubt anything outside of AUS compares in quality in FC.
