Cricketer Of The Year
Don't think it's a huge secret that CC is currently a bit quieter than it has been of some times in its past - earlier this year, or back in early 2005 for instance.

Here are some names who have either left (hopefully temporarily in most cases) or basically never post any more:
marc71178
Neil Pickup
Jono
superkingdave
Scaly piscine
tooextracool
aussie
Voltman
benchmark00
C_C
Sudeep
Adamc
Slow Love™
Top_Cat
FRAZ
_Ed_
masterblaster
The Baconator
Samuel_Vimes
Waughney
Jungle Jumbo
chris.hinton
cricketboy29
Pedro Delgado
a massive zebra
LongHopCassidy
16 tins of Spam
Steulen
BlackCap_Fan

And some who've been absent, temporarily, recently:
Mr Mxyzpltk
Craig
FaaipDeOiad
SJS
Pratyush
adharcric
PY
Barney Rubble
Tim
twctopcat

Now, of course, losses like these - all bar 3 or 4 of the above the forum would be better with than without them - will always have some impact. There have been quality newcomers - to name some who've joined in the last year or so:
pup11
Pup Clarke
Athlai
Flem274*
shortpitched713
Raghav
HeathDavisSpeed
Nishant
The Sean
cover drive man
Poker Boy
1-9-7-7
headhunter
stumpski
NUFAN
(Let's note - this is BY NO MEANS an exhaustive list)

So there are ups and downs; obviously, ideally we'd like the ups without the downs, but the sad reality is that life does change; most of the departures named above have been because people have been doing stuff (mostly education-related) that has meant they've had less time or less ability to get net access than they once did. And as I say - while this is a great shame, it's almost unavoidable.

Nonetheless, I doubt any would be sorry to see the return of the likes of Matt Pitt, tec, Corey, Jesse, Marc, FRAZ, amz, etc. And if they ever do return, CW will be the richer for it.
I didn't get a single mention in that post, and I am still here.... Am very disappointed..

And of course, there are members like me.....who make the odd special appearances and than disappears.

I actually would like to know the demographics and age groups of users in this forum...might be interesting.

To be honest, hardcore net posting is always going to remain the preserve of those of us lucky enough to have the time and the lack of commitment around in order to give the free time available to devote to it: i.e. schoolkids, students, the unemployed and civil servants.

I wouldn't think the average poster age is dramatically different to three or four years ago: we've grown up, got jobs, found social lives, been diverted. Now we are yielding the fruit of being five years down the line in an education system that has given us the multiple choice GCSE and people putting apostrophes in "needs".

I wonder what CW 2012 will be like? "cricket woz gud, lyk afrede hitted ball well gud but cook iz 2 borin lol y cant he hit 6 more". Perhaps that's just the fruit of a 3am posting: but nevertheless, it's one to toss out there - blame the education system / blame teenagers / blame text culture / blame Canada. Pick one.
Why not all of the above?

I definatly don't post that much as I used to, more of a reader then a poster. My massive post count from 2003-2004 when I more spare time then employment. Quite often I don't get to see a lot of international cricket, like the India-Australia series due to me being pre-occupied somewhere else, or in England, but come this summer I will be watching what I can.

plus sometimes I CBF following threads when they get massively out of hand. If I see a topic I like, I post.
I second that emotion. I don't have time to read 20 pages of threads just to catch up on the couple of hours since my last post. Believe it or not, I'm actually extremely busy, but chatting about cricket (and Off Topic, which was not the reason I joined 8-) ) is quite relaxing.

Yeah, guys like you who were always around and are still around don't really have any relevance to the point I was making.

Like... me, for instance.

Or, to give another example, David Lewis.

From a relative outsider's point of view, it seems that the scope of discussion is brilliant but much of the time, threads are clogged with age old arguments (e.g. Watson Vs Symonds) and members just flaming each other.

The weird thing is, I've done the whole lot of that, and I'm still pretty much exactly the same as I was 4 years ago. Obviously, I was 18 when I joined, was just about to start the job I'm just about to finish as of the time of this post, had plenty of friends and the like, and always had some sorts of diversions.

I'm just an exception to many rules, really. Shame there aren't more like me.

I'll resist the temptation(s) to make a pun about Smokey Robinson. It'll just cause people to cry the tears of a clown
Pray, what has The Temptations to do with Smokey and The Miracles? Or is this just a Motown blurring operation? If so, being with you must be something of a wide-reaching plateau.

(But then, we already knew that)

I'd say I'm more of a Scenic Lookout on your way up a mountain than a wide reaching plateau.

By the way, the Temptations covered I Second that Emotion hence why i referenced them.

Aha.

Either way, this is actually a very interesting thread if some people wish to comment, so for once I'd prefer to avoid the puns. :p

IMO, CC is getting very samey. All the threads seem to be about the same thing and anything different gets dragged back to old, unwinnable arguments. Was considering leaving for a bit last week so when I came back the topics might be a lot fresher but decided to stay and contribute in whatever positive way I can to the discussion. I think as long as we have some good posters sticking around for a bit and the newbies are of a good quality things will be fine. If we have a high turnover of posters and no one sticking around then the whole site, not just CC is in trouble.

This is just my opinion of course, others may see it completely differently.

Not enough cricket going on to spark discussion IMO. Should pick up during the Aussie summer.

Plus I think the other thing for you BP is that you're probably getting the 'second year' blues. There are very few original ideas for a discussion, and thus the same stuff comes around again and again - that's as true here as it is anywhere else in life. Referring to 16TOS' stages theory of life in CW, in your initial period as an active poster, every topic is interesting because you've never argued it before. Once you've had a good bash a few times at each of the major types of discussion that come around here, finding points of interest gets harder. That's why a lot of the guys who've been here for a while only post one liners in most topics and instead participate either in discussions of actual games as they occur, or in the odd original (or at least semi-original) topic that arises...

Plus of course the other thing is that nostalgia isn't as good as it used to be ;)

He had a long break though, which may have meant that it took him longer to reach this stage than others...
