Congratulations Murali

but I am pretty confident in saying that whatever Murali ends up with come the end of his test career will not be broken in my lifetime.
Richie thought the same thing...

For all we know his shoulder might crap out for good.

The real question is will a fast bowler ever hold the record again?

That, I can say with certainty, won't happen. Fast bowling places an incredible demand on your body, and the fact that he'd need to bowl long spells in so many Test matches, over such a long period, that I'd say it was pretty much impossible.

Haha, yeah, if any seamer ever takes 600 that'll be one hell of an achievement. Even the bowler who could well be argued to be top-three if not best-ever material didn't "even" manage 600. 700-and-more? About as little chance as there is of Test-cricket ever being a 100-team sport.

Seam-bowlers can by nature not carry on longer than about 36-37, 38 at best. And rare is the seamer who's Test-class before the age of about 24-25. Equally rare is the seamer capable of staying fit for Test after Test, series after series. To do that, and play in the absurdly-crowded current schedule, is near enough OOTQ.

that was just awesome, would have loved to be at the ground.
I was falling a sleep when the other bowlers were at the end and was getting up when Murali was on.

The guy throws - whether once, twice or three times an over, whether the doosra, top spinner or arm ball or whatever ... HE THROWS.

He's a cheat, has boggley eyes, and is a runt.

That's all I have to say.
End of.

Chucker. **** him.

Nah, fair play, I suppose. A player whose abilities I respect rather than one I like, but unquestionably effective.

Bit of a sook tho, it must be said, if you'll excuse the Australianism.

Well, in the "Who was best - Warne or Muralitharan" debate, it will be very hard to convince Australians (and perhaps others) of the latter.
Taken out of his comfort zone, Muralitharan was found lacking and these stats make telling reading

Career stats
702 wickets @ 21.51
Versus Australia in Sri Lanka
47 wickets @ 26.02
Versus Australia in Australia
12 wickets @ 75.41

He played down here at three different points in his career, and played everywhere save at Adelaide.

He bowled a total of 262 overs and ended up with the staggeringly bad strike rate of 131 balls per wicket.

Does these stats forever allow Warne fans to win the Warne vs Muralitharan debate?
Will his record in Australia forever be a stain on his career?
His action aside, how would have Muralitheran fared had he been Australian, and been forced to play the bulk of his tests in Australia?

warne never had to bowl against the strongest batting lineup around, warne got burnt badly by the indians, especially in india. they both have teams that have got the better of them, big deal, both are champion bowlers and we have been blessed to witness them going head to head for such a long period.

Gun bowler. Like Murali tbh.

In the end of the day would Test Cricket be better without him? The answer is a resounding no.

Also, hopefully the book he signed for me is worth even more now.
