So...put this question to my mates I went to Metallica with last night...they say Parmi.

Yep, that pretty much settles it for mine.

History

Eggplant was introduced to Italy through Sicily and the south, and the dish is claimed by both Campania and Sicily. While "parmigiana" means "from Parma" (in Northern Italy), the dish is not part of Parma cuisine.
Didn't realise we were in Northern Italy when making up nick names for foods.

This dish is often referred to as a parma or parmi, a simple shortening of the name. The two nicknames for this dish can be the subject of some debate amongst Australians of different regions.
I love the idea that someone has read this thread and thought "well that's Wiki-worthy!"

I had another parmi this evening. It was served as two pieces of chicken, rather than the one huge, majestic slab to which I'm accustomed to being served. Mixed feelings, tbh. Didn't affect the taste, though.
